The Pools of Radiance thread got me into a remake mood. We are talking here about a good remake of course. Think Sid Meier's Pirates ie a facelift with some extra features.
My top pick: Darklands.
Tie Fighter
Planescape: Torment
Alpha Centauri
The Longest Journey
Remakes. :x

That would be one of my top picks as well.
Another, Wing Commander 1-3. Death to the Kilrathi! :punk:
Darklands and Master of Magic.
Alot of Commodore stuff:
Seven Cities of Gold
Heart of Africa
Below The Root
Mail Order Monsters
Red Storm Rising
Also, the Krynn series, which I preferred to Pool of Radiance.
Wouldn't mind seeing some more Zork games either.
Crusader:No Remorse
MULE
The Quest For Glory series.
Dragon Force
Blazing Heroes
Sim Earth
Battle Bugs
Betrayal at Krondor.
Rome Total War.
Morrowind.
Gemfire
Imperialism
L'Empereur
Tons.
Master of Magic
The Gold Box games, Dragonlance as well as the original Forgotten Realms trilogy ( I guess Savage Frontieer too)
Sim Earth
Alpha Centauri
Mule
Crusade in Europe
NATO Commander
Romance of the 3 Kingdoms
Alpha Centauri
Universal Military Simulator
Wargame Construction set and Mail Order Monsters
Frontier Elite *1000
Darklands would be good too.
Morrowind and Hammerfall
Uncharted Waters
Caesar 2
Can't think of many right now...

Hell. Yes. Breaks my heart not being able to play it on Win7. :(
You guys named most of the good ones. I'm not against remakes. Even remakes that are radically different the first (I was skeptical about Fallout 3 but it turned out to be good EDIT: I know Fallout 3 is not technically a remake). I've very skeptical of the new X-Com.
Wing Commander I-III.
X-Wing/TIE Fighter.
L'empereur.
Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic.
Privateer.
HoI3.
I forgot about Decision in the Desert.
do-do dooh-dooh-dooh-dooh STUKA
do-do dooh-dooh-dooh-dooh MINEFIELD
I used to bomb the enemy HQs and supply depots first.
Oh wait, I'm thinking of Desert Fox I think. Decision in the Desert was a Microprose game with hexes and shit, right?
Yes. I liked it though. That and Crusade in Europe. NATO Commander was similar.
I think I played all three (Desert Fox, Crusade in Europe, and Decision in the Desert).
Desert Fox was like an early Total War prototype. There was a strategic map but as soon as your forces made contact with German forces, there was a little action sequence that determined how the strategic battle played out.
WHAT ABOUT THE ITALIANS???
As soon as you made contact with Italian forces, they surrendered, so no need for the little minigame. :)
Not necessarily remake, but I'd love to see a followup to Wasteland.
Knights of Legend was an unpolished gem that really needs a remake.
Can't really think of any 90s games aside from perhaps XCOM and MoM that really need remakes. A lot of the other suggestions in this thread have already seen their remakes in one form or another.
Though I may need to check out Betrayal at Krondor. I loved the Riftwar setting and can't understand how I missed that one. :hmm:
Deus Ex.
Medieval Lords was good. Not as defined as EU, guess EU could be a sort of RTS remake, but I still enjoyed it.

I thought about mentioning Wasteland, but between Fallout and FO3 I feel like it's been sufficiently followed-up on, and any additional remake/follow-up runs the risk of being crap and ruining Wasteland's legacy.
Oh, that reminds me of another game which was a contemporary of Wasteland's: Neuromancer.

I never felt Fallout was a worthy successor to Wasteland even though it's a great series in its own right. Of course, I agree that it's hard to see how it would be possible to do anything with Wasteland that wouldn't be a let-down. Still, while the settings are similar I never got that Wasteland feel from Fallout.

I'd also like to see a Red Baron remake.
Another C64 classic I forgot earlier: Racing Destruction Set.

As far as I can recall, yeah. The originals were fun, but these days I just can't muster the energy for their brand of rince-repeat style of fighting. It sortof works for twitch-gaming, but no longer for text games.
To be fair, I don't think I gave the remake much of a chance. I may have to pick it up again.
I'd love to see Midwinter. They could add more people, but keep the hanggliders.
Wing Commander. I would love a new space flight sim. It would even work well on a console.
Won't happen though - much better to just churn out another iteration of shooter or car driving game. Can never have too many of those.
Game designers are too: risk averse. :(
SM's Gettysburg
If I had rich man money to burn, I'd love to have SSI's back catalog.
WHO WANTS PHANTASIE IV?
Freespace 1 & 2
Planescape: Torment
SM's alpha Centauri
Day of the Tentacle, and some of the old Infocom gems; and Gabriel Knight 1
Raid Over Moscow
SimEarth
I'd kill a random Languishite for a new iteration of SimCity

Flight sims don't sell well anymore. Their glory days were back before it was possible to make action games and shooters look good on PCs. Flight sims were the FPS games of their time.
I think one problem with flight sims is the over-complication. Realism is good for hardcore fans, but not good for casual gamers, or hardcore fans who didn't discover yet that they're hardcore fans. Remember when joysticks had two buttons, and nothing else?
Microsoft has acknowledged this shortcoming and supposedly their new flightsim, Microsoft Flight, will cater to casual gamers as well as hardcore flightsimmers. We'll see if that really works, though.
Detroit is ripe for a remake on the iPhone ore somesuch.

Yeah; remember how many keyboard controls you had to have mapped in addition? :P
Even TIE Fighter had a lot of keyboard input (granted, most of it was maintenance stuff that made sense being broken away from the keyboard); the only time I was ever able to get X-Wing Alliance running with a single controller was the time that I hooked up a Steel Battalion controller to my computer with an XBox-USB adapter. :contract:

Medieval Lords
Master of Orion 2 (Essentially a new game following this formula, not the shit that was actually released 6-7 years ago)
Stronghold
Battles of Napoleon
Interestingly aside from Master of Magic most of these games weren't my favorite games in their own time, I think I only want to see them remade because they are fairly unrepresented by anything at all in modern gaming.

I rather enjoyed Conquest of the New World when it came out.
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/conquest_of_the_new_world (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/conquest_of_the_new_world) (Has anyone used this site for downloading games? I'm sorely tempted to get this.)
I have gotten several GoG games (FO, FO2, Arcanum, some others i have forgotten). they work just fine, and are updated for use on modern PCs.
Very tempting. I thank you, though my bank account may not. :)

I will echo Grumbler's endorsement of the site. They have weekly sales so if cost is an issue you may want to wait until the game you want is offered at a discount.

I am still waiting for
Planescape: Torment to go on sale. It's been forever. My existing copy won't run on WinXP or Win7, and I don't want to pay the full $10 just to get a nostalgia kick. :(
That is a game I always meant to play but didnt get around to getting. I would appreciate it if you would send a note if it does go on sale so I dont miss it. I will do the same.
KOTOR2 would be great if remade. Or just completed.

It is a wonderful game - one of my favorite games ever. I understand grumbler might not want to buy a game he already owns, but if you've never had it, it is worth much more than 10$. I have played it often, and have always found interesting bits and parts I had never discovered before. The voice acting is great, the story is a very original twist on a well-known theme, the characters are deep, very well-constructed, and moving.
Be advised, however, that it is a strange kind of RPG, very much story-driven (you start as a fighter, and if you want to level up as a mage or a thief, you have to find the way to do so...). You gain much more enjoyment from figuring out parts of the plot than from the usual "fighting bad guys".
FO1 and FO2

That was what i enjoyed about it; the story was more than a thin veneer trying to explain "why are those guys attacking my character?"
Thanks for the advice. I will pick it up er download it.

Yeah, the setting itself was pretty neat. It's essentially taking place in the D&D version of the afterlife. I had a friend who got the campaign setting and we had great fun playing it. It had some really neat themes and concepts such as literal bureaucrats from Hell, and medieval cyborgs. The art from Tony DiTerlizzi was also great and gave it a unique style.
