Title: The OFFICIAL Super Bowl XXXXIIII Thread: Katrina versus Pure Evil
Post by: CountDeMoney on February 07, 2010, 07:09:53 AM
If you went back in time 15 years, and told someone that these two teams would be here, you'd have been committed.

But here we are.

I'll be rooting for Nawlins, but I believe it'll be Mannning's day.  First team to 4 touchdowns win.

Go Saints, Brees is awesome, but holy sweet mother of god the Katrina shit is going to be unbearable if they win.  Fuck the Colts.

Edit:  Just...ugh...fuck the Colts.

OMG THE CITY WAS SAVED

Watching divisional rivals in the Super Bowl sucks ass, doesn't it?

At least this way it's not the Steelers, so we don't have to deal with an entire year of more advertising campaigns staring Troy Palamaulu.

The Steelers and everyone associated with them are awful, it's true (the Oilers used to be in the same division with them fuck them too aaaaaaaaaaaaaa the last decade was the worst ever), but Fetusface Manning will be all over your TV if the Colts win.  That's just as bad as that mook Polamalu.  The best possible outcome is a Saints victory and the media mysteriously forgetting about the hurricane.  Some Breesus commercials would be fine too.

Edit:  Also, Manning retiring immediately after the game would be good.

Go Saints!  I want Will Smith to get a SB Ring and I want Manning to suffer.

Barring that I'll settle for the Colts to win 35-21. *

* - of course I got a fucking 5 and 1 in SB squares.  Meh

I think I'll watch my first Superbowl in over a decade tonight; it's on the BBC, so I won't have to put up with all the interminable advert breaks.

As a complete neutral, I will, however, be hoping the Colts win. The thought of supporting a team that uses "Saints" in its name just feels...wrong, somehow.

The quality of those experts will probably decide how long I keep watching, rather than the quality of the play; the Beeb has a good track record in other sports, though, so I'm quite hopeful.

Up until this morning I was kind of "meh" about the game, but now I'm starting to ramp up.  I pulled a package of chicken drumsticks out of the freezer this morning & thawed them out, and right now I am marinating them (and will bake them) in hot wing sauce.  I'm also frying up a pound of bacon so that I can make potato skins.  Good stuff.

Oh, and go Saints.  I won't be crushed if Indy wins, but I'd rather see New Orleans go all the way...

You missed the Obama interview just before that.  I don't know about you CCR, but nothing gets me more fired up for some footbaw than President Obama talking about health care and 9/11.

Also Phil Mickleson making "picks" by seeing which golf ball goes farther.  There was apparently some sort of ape or something making picks earlier too.

I can't decide who I hate more:  the dumbass execs that put that crap on the air or the dumbass people that watch that crap, making it profitable for the dumbass execs to air it.  What came first -- the chicken or the egg?

"Superbowl commercials" have become somewhat of a capitalist spectacle in and of themselves; it's when advertising firms traditionally bring out the heavy hitters designed for both entertainment as well as advertisements.

FloTV was #1, excellent deadpan by Jim Nance.  And it's Jim Nance.

Abe Vigoda was #2, Human Bridge was #3.  Casual Friday was decent.

Huge goalline stand.  Huge drop by Garcon.  I think it's a pretty decent game.

Hey last time he did a Super Bowl show, he just stood there for the first five minutes or so, so they can just prop his corpse up and duplicate that pretty easily.

There will be no tackling in the Superbowl.  I think they told them at halftime that if anybody tried wrapping up, they'd get hit with an Unsportsmanlike Conduct flag.

Even so, it's not very often you see a team come out of the locker after halftime, recover an onside kick, and take it down for 7.

That looked legit to me.  He caught it, bobbled it, caught it again (over the goal line), and then the defender came along and placekicked the ball out of his hands.  That'd be a score.

I don't know.  I find it impossible to hate the Saints, no matter how hard the media tries to make me.  Brees is the only QB is the league that you can respect not only as a field marshall, but as a warrior.  The whole receiving corps and line are deserving nobodies.  Thomas is Mr. Hard Work and Bell was a castoff from the Denver system.  Shockey was an asshole, but Brees kicking his fucking ass on national TV has made him more humble.  Bush is an attention whore (and his soon-to-be-wife is an actual whore), but his relative marginality makes him palatable.  The defence is full of guys who strove all their careers and it's nice to see them get results.  Smith, Sharper, Vilma, Fujita.  Brunell didn't do anything, but he can have a ring too.

For sure, very good game to watch considering I had no dog in the fight.

Best actual game in years.  Never thought I'd see Peyton crumble like that.  Wow.

It was almost perfect, until Brees started thanking Football Jesus for the win.  I think that all Football Jesus people should be shot, over and over again, with bullets made of pure hatred.

I found this (http://techpp.com/2010/02/05/10-ways-to-watch-super-bowl-44-live-online-for-free/) site, then went to the atdhe.net link on it, and just tried a bunch of the different links on that site for the superbowl. Most of the time the video wouldn't work at all, or it'd work for a minute then stop, giving me "The limit of streams for your country have been reached, sign up for premium membership at justin.tv" crap. One video worked for a bit, so I saw the Saint's first touchdown, then stopped; later I just tried at random and finally got one that stayed on, without sound though.

QuoteMIAMI—On the heels of their 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, the New Orleans Saints rose to the third spot in the most recent NFL team power rankings. "With Drew Brees running the offense, this team has what it takes to be among of the best," ESPN.com reporter John Clayton wrote in his entry on the World Champion Saints. "I'm still not convinced their defense can take them all the way to the top, though. As I said in my rankings, I think the Colts are just a better club overall. And of course I like the depth of talent on the Cowboys." Clayton said he expected "big things" from the Saints in the 2010 season.

I found it surprising that Google bought advertising.

Are they feeling heat from Bing, or what?

The Simpsons ad for Coke was amusing, although I found it odd to see the Simpsons on CBS.  Of course the Superbowl being on CBS probably explained why they unearthed The Who for the halftime show.

QuoteHas the Tom Brady-Peyton Manning Debate Come to an End?

by Adam Heasley

Correspondent Written on February 09, 2010

It has now been two days since Superbowl XLIV. Two story lines havedeveloped from the Superbowl, with both of them regarding each team's quarterback. Saints QB Drew Brees will no longer be over looked, as the Super Bowl MVP will now be put up there with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as one of the top quarterbacks in the league today.

Now, with the other storyline, well let's just say it's not a positive one for Colt fans. Late in the fourth quarter, QB Peyton Manning threw a pass that, in my opinion, epitomizes his playoff career.

For those of you who did not watch the most watched Super Bowl of all-time on Sunday, Manning threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown that virtually sealed the game for the underdog New Orleans Saints, who went on to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

For now, let's take a breath from the Superbowl and spend it on the debate that has taken the NFL by storm over the last three years. Who's better? Tom Brady or Peyton Manning? Has this Superbowl ended the debate with authority?

Well let's look at the facts. Tom Brady is 32-years old and will be 33 in August, while Peyton Manning is about to turn 34 in March. Brady has spent 10 years in the NFL, while Manning has spent 12 years in tthe league.

Now with all that in mind, let's look at career stats. Brady's Regular season record is 111-27. Manning's record is better at 131-71. Now, if we look at the winning percentage of each quarterback's record, Brady's winning percentage is at 80.4%, while Manning's win percentage is only 64.85%.

If you do not agree, do the math yourself. But, the simple truth is that 80.4% is a lot higher winning percentage than 64.85. While Brady does not have as many wins as Manning, he has won games at a much higher rate than Manning has.

Now, let's next look at the record that really matters in my opinon: Playoff record. Brady has a 14-4 career record in the postseason, while Manning is only 9-9. I do not know about you, but to me a .500 winning percentage is not very impressive, espeicially when you consider the fact that Manning's Colts have had the best record in the regular season three out of the last four years.

Now, how come Manning hasn't been to more Superbowl's and won more? You can't say Brady has had better teams, because the Colts regular season success would kill that argument in my opinion.

Now, let's look at each Quarterback's record breaking seasons. Does anyone remember Manning breaking Dan Marino's single season touchdown record? Yeah?

Well, in case you forgot, that record is now held by Tom Brady.

People can argue that Brady had an awesome receiving core that season (e.g. Moss, Welker, Stallworth and Gaffney), which is something that I agree with as well. But, that receiving core was only intact for one season, as both Daunte Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney left via free agency over the next two seasons.

Peyton Manning has had great receivers his whole career, with the likes of Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Brandon Stokley and now Pierre Garcon catching Manning's passes over the years.

With that said, Brady has won three Superbowl's while throwing to the likes of David Patten, David Givens, Troy Brown and Deion Branch, which many would consider as an average receiving core.

At the end of the day, Tom Brady, to date, has won three Super Bowls and gone to a fourth, while Peyton Manning has only gone 1-1 in the Super Bowl. Additonally, Brady has won those games with less talented teams then Manning's Colts.

And I have one last thing that truly sets them apart. Tom Brady doesn't miss an easy read, to throw a pick six to lose a the Super Bowl. He never has and probaly never will, in my opinion.

While I'm just saying, it's hard to ignore the numbers...they never lie.

That's because you're allowing your bias to cloud your judgment.  At least learn to acknowledge blatantly obvious greatness even when you fucking hate the guy and his enormous face.

Peyton Manning is the Indianapolis Colts.  There's nothing else, when it really comes down to it.  Without him, even with all the other dudes being the same, they're lucky to win 7 or 8 games, and wouldn't sniff the playoffs in the AFC South.  The Patriots plugged in that scrub Matt Cassel and won..what..11?

And for fucks sake, why is all this Brady stupidity popping up now?  That loser couldn't get out of the first round (it was all supposedly because Welker's knee couldn't handle the grass in Houston, but then again, GOAT QB's should be able to get over the loss of a slot WR, right?).  He also lost a Superbowl to Peyton's retarded little brother.

Brady won 3 superbowls with receivers who were chumps compared to what Peyton had. In the years Brady won the Superbowl, Peyton had better offensive players around him, Harrison, Wayne, Clark and James. So no, you're the one not looking at things objectively. Brady, Montana, Elway, they would have all won more Superbowls with that offense than Peyton has.

Any hall of fame quarterback could rack up his numbers with those players. Jim Kelly or Dan Marino would have done just as well, and like Peyton been choking dogs in the playoffs.

Of course I've seen them play, they're on the TV all the damn time. I'm sure their OC does what every OC does, call the plays.

Of course I've seen them play, they're on the TV all the damn time. I'm sure their OC does what every OC does, call the plays.

The Colts OC's job is basically to run ideas by Peyton Manning.  This is a guy who has been in the business for something like 40 years.  He essentially submits several plays, then Manning goes out there and does what he needs to do.  In between offensive series, he'll bring the shots over to Manning so he can eyeball them.

You must not have been paying attention when you watched them.

The whole offense goes through that guy.  It's not like the Texans or Patriots or really any other current team where the coach or OC submits plays and the QB will generally run it unless an audible is obviously required (or sometimes not even then).  It's also a major reason why they look so ordinary when Sorgi is in there.   Painter is worse than just nobody playing and the center snapping it to empty space.  Sorgi isn't that bad.  He can manage a game, he just can't do what Manning does that makes the Clods offense so outstanding.

Playoff choking or whatever else you're trying to talk about doesn't matter, and is probably wrong anyway, since they didn't put up those numbers.  No one has.  It also doesn't matter how many times you try to tell yourself differently, or how many times some guy just like you tries to tell himself differently via an internet article, or whatever:  Peyton "Fetusface" Manning is possibly the greatest quarterback of all time.
