Ok, so I am looking for some DVD purchase recommendations for Christmas. The shows listed are from season 1 (i.e. I have not seen them or seen only an odd episode here and there) unless otherwise indicated.
My criteria are: it should be good, it should be edgy (i.e. should have some thing that sets it apart and makes it unusual) and it should have at least some gay appeal (I am not saying it needs to be Queer As Folk, but there should be at least some gay character(s) or otherwise appeal to gay sensibilities). :P
Examples of other shows I liked (not listed) are: Queer As Folk, Torchwood, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City.
Edit: You can choose up to 3 options. :)
Should you be celebrating Christmas, Marti? Baby Jesus hates TEH GAYS. :(
OTOH Jews are indifferent on gays and love lesbos, so maybe celebrate Chanukkah? :bowler:

Loved, loved? :perv:
Oh right, I forgot that Jesus was actually gay*.
*according to the secret gospel of Timothy
the wire has two of the coolest gay characters i've ever seen in any show.
one of them is closeted and you'd hardly know it unless you were paying attention to an episode far into the series :D
Dexter Season 2 & 3.
I voted for Entourage and The Wire. As for gay characters, in Entourage you have a gay sarcastic Mono:

While in The Wire you have a badass gay negro:

Voted The Wire, Dexter and Entourage, as those seem the best from the episodes I've gathered.
Unfortunatelly I think that you will pick Glee wich I had the misfortune of seeing a few minutes yesterday. :bleeding:
Of the ones on your list, Mad Men is a must-see for sure.
There's even gay shit in it and everything.
BUMP

Why the angry face? Making too much of an effort bumping the thread?
Glee is absolutely horrible as show. The writers just lumped every Teenage High School Cliche together. The singing numbers are nice, check them out on Youtube or something but do not subject yourself to it.

I need more people to vote. :P
17 people aren't enough? It's clear from the poll that you should buy Dexter, The Wire and Entourage. :P

So is High School Musical, yet I doubt he'd enjoy it, unless he morphs into Siege and/or Grallon.

I love musicals but that show...it is so badly written and acted and the characters are so one-dimensional it makes me want to claw my eyes out and my standards for those things are not high. As I said the music is good just check out the scenes on Youtube but for all that is good and decent and holy do not buy DVDs of it.
It is Dawnson's Creek but with music...and worse acting...and writing.

so, my suspicion of it from the countless facebook statuses in support of it is justified. good to know :)

You can't buy True Blood season 2 yet.
Carnivale (both seasons are great.
The Wire. best TV show ever, that has the value add of annoying seedy.

Yes. Including shipping it's ca. 50 EUR from Amazon.co.uk
The other seasons aren't out yet.
Ok, I'm getting Entourage, The Wire and Dexter, based on recommendations here (and the fact that I'm loving season 1 of Dexter). Also will probably get Ugly Betty and True Blood, but that's because I like vampires and gay fashion shows.
Got Entourage seasons 1-2, The Wire season 1, Mad Men season 1 and Dexter season 2.
Thanks for the recommendations, guys. If the shows suck, I will sue you. :D
Proof that Tamas should not be considered civilized:

Haven't seen Dexter, only a few episodes from S1, but I heard that S2 is a step down quality wise from it, only to go up again in S3 and S4. Entourage I love it, great show if you want to see the backstage lives of Hollywood people and film making.
I'm going to re-watch Space:1999.
Hopefully in a futuristic dacron turtleneck and bellbottoms combo.

The ep where some aliens give the moon an atmosphere and the moonbase crew open all the windows is a classic!
I also love how all of season 2, because they couldn't afford even the cheesy sets of season one, takes place pretty much entirely in one room.
Space: 1949 was a gem of a bomb.
