Ok, this came up in a Computer subforum thread but I wanted to move it to the main page because I didn't want the hijack to get worse: a friend of Princesca and I is looking to sell of most of her guns and the above list is what she has 'for sale'. She also has a Beretta .22 and a SIG Haemmerli but isn't willing to sell those because they're her favorites.
I don't have any idea of what she'd be charging but based on the above list, which ones do people like best? You can go ahead and make fun of the Taurus (I just wanted to list to be all-inclusive).
Buy American you commie bastard.

Nein.
Also, she is Swiss, so of course she's not going to buy junky American firearms. :)
List-fail. No 1911 detected.
I'm a Canadian Sissy, however I have awesome bladder control, and I like guns. I chose the Beretta 9mm.
I'm going to have to go ahead and say Glock 19, but for the record I don't think any of them are a good choice.

I don't feel that I need a .45 caliber piece. Honestly, I'd almost want a .22 if it wasn't such a puny round... my father in law's SIG Mosquito is fun as hell to shoot.

 Didn't mean to imply that all Canadians are sissies (when it comes to this stuff).
Of these I like the P229. I have one in .40 caliber and I love it. I like the 1911 also, but they must be well-machined, often post-production. And they are heavy. Mine is, anyway. I've put thousands and thousands of rounds of cheap dirty Wal-Mart ammo through my P229 and it has literally never once misfed or misfired. Pretty impressive.

If you're not going to use it against the most dangerous predator of all, that is to say black people, why not just settle for a .22 anyway?
For targetshooting I find the .22 a lot more fun than any other calibre.
I'm also a sissy Canadian and think that there is no need for a private person to own a handgun (as opposed to a long gun, which is a whole different matter :Canuck:).
One thing I liked about the Glock is that it's extremely light, MiM. The SIG Mosquito is as well (and has like literally zero recoil... but also zero stopping power :D ).

Pfft. First, it's easier to say "long gun" than it is to say "rifle or shotgun".
Second, since Canadian law restricts any firearm with a barrel length of less than 470mm, there is a legal distinction between a long gun and other types of firearms.
So in short, up yours. :P

still sounds completely stupid. It's a rifle of course it's long.
ask any hunter over 30 if he carries a rifle or a long gun.
I'll call it a long gun when you pry it from my cold dead hands. :p

The barrel of a pistol is also rifled.
No, the proper term is of course "Gevär" or if you wish to get prussian, "Gewehr".
How about "boomstick"?

I'm biased of course, but I went for the Glock 19. The 26 is a really nice CCW pistol, if that is the angle you wanted to go for.
And FWIW I'm pretty impressed that the inevitable M1911 hijack got in as early as the 3rd reply.

9mm is fine. I prefer a .38 for my CCW needs however.
I will probably get a license to carry here, but I doubt I will ever actually do it, which is why I was looking at the 19 over the 26.

Well, apparently ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45
QuoteThe Cavalry had fielded some double action revolvers in .38 Long Colt. They determined that the .38-caliber round was significantly less effective against determined opponents, such as the warriors encountered in the Moro Rebellion of the Philippine–American War, than the .45 Colt.
Feeling insecure, Cal? I hear doctors can work wonders these days to solve that kind of problem...

@Mal - What I meant was that it just so happened that the Filipinos were the ones who violently revolted at that time, rather than the Cubans (which the US similarly acquired a protectorate over at the same time). ^_^

Allegedly, the move to .45 was (in part) inspired with actual field experience with Moro rebels ... who just would not admit to being dead after being shot with smaller calibres.
The Glock 19 and 26 are basically the same gun. The 26 is just more compact. It is less accurate than the 19. I carry the 19 (with a 15 round mag) for a work weapon. I am also qualified to carry the 26 but choose not to do so.
Both run about $450-$500 in Western NY.
EDIT: The Glock 19 and 26 can jam a lot depending on your ammunition, state of the weapon, and shooting ability (if you don't lock your wrist right it won't reload properly). If you worry about jams than buy a revolver. A Smith & Wesson .357 with a .38 firing pin is a very nice weapon.
I'm gonna jump on the P229 out of those listed. Also, I will admit the Glocks are pretty poorly represented because so many gangbangers like to fire 'em sideways for the look, which just proves they're stupid. :bleeding:
You can fire alot of semis sideways... it's just idiotic to do so for a number of reasons. :)

Instead SIG P210, a Rolls Royce among hand guns...
Also happens to be the only semi- automatic hand I have ever fired... ;)
Found out that Smith & Wesson is offering a 40% discount to Active Duty/Retired military...so I am seriously considering how to exercise my American obligation to bear arms. ;)
Suggestions appreciated. Though my leaning is some variant of the good 'ol 1911. Or a shotgun/assault rifle if I feel like ballin' out of control.

Cal, you are a fucking pussy. The only gun worthy of defending one's home is a Freedom Arms .454 Casull.
Do you mean this:

Why on earth would you need an scope for a handgun?
What's the range with that thing?
50m?
Real men use this:

Owning a handgun when you are not an agent of the government is immoral.
I have a peice of paper stuck on my wall stating:
Pursuant to subsection 9(1) of the
Director of Public Prosecutions Act, I hereby authorize [Barrister] to act for me or on my behalf in the exercise of the duties of functions set out in subsections 3(3)(a), (b), (d), (e), (f), and (g), (8) and (9) of the
Director of Public Prosecutions Act, subject to the policies and guidelines set out in the Federal Prosecution Service Deskbook.
signed by the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions.
So given my very real status as an agent of the state I am in the process of getting my restricted firearms license, and will see what I can do about getting a handgun. :Canuck:
