Dallas vs Oakland? It's bad enough the Lions have to play on Thanksgiving, the least they could do is put Dallas against someone decent.

I suppose it's just as well - most people will be too full to pay attention to the game, and it'll make a nice sedative for the after-dinner nap.

Come on now, it's a new era in Oakland:  The Post-Jamarcus Russell Era.  They are coming off of a win over the now 7-3 Bengals this past Sunday where they put up 20 points to the pathetic 7 Dallas managed against Washington.

QuotePosted by Mike Florio on November 26, 2009 11:22 AM ET
The Lions were expected to face the Packers on Thursday without quarterback Matt Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson.

But the team has now announced that both will start.

The inactive players for the home team are quarterback Drew Stanton (emergency quarterback), receiver Derrick Williams, safety Kalvin Pearson, fullback Terrelle Smith, linebacker Ernie Sims, center Melvin Fowler, offensive lineman Ephraim Salaam, and defensive end Dewayne White.

Stafford had been listed as doubtful and Johnson has been listed as questionable.

Though the Packers might be thinking that they were snookered by the Lions, the "doubtful" classification suggests a 25-percent chance of playing.  And that one-out-of-four outcome has transpired.

QuoteJets play "red light, green light" with Sanchez
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 28, 2009 4:44 PM ET
Jets coach Rex Ryan wants rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez to be more careful with the ball. And he's stressing that to Sanchez with a simple instruction before each passing play.

According to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, Ryan will give Sanchez a code word before each passing play to let him know how cautious he needs to be.

Described as a simple red-yellow-green system, the color codes will tell Sanchez he needs to be cautious (red) or aggressive (green) or somewhere in between (yellow) on each pass play.

At first blush, this sounds more like the kind of thing you'd get from a Pop Warner coach than an NFL coach. And it comes across as though Ryan doesn't have a whole lot of faith in Sanchez's decision making.

But Ryan insists that he has plenty of confidence in Sanchez, saying that the rookie is coming off his best week of practice.

"This is the time that usually the rookies hit that wall, but he's doing just the opposite," Ryan said. "He's breaking through that wall ... I think he's going to have a great game."

If it were possible Sanchez should be forced to wear a shock collar that goes off every time he thinks about throwing to a double covered receiver.

QuoteGoing from Roethlisberger to Dixon, who has thrown one pass in the NFL, presents quite a dropoff. Losing Charlie Batch to wrist surgery after the KC game leaves the Steelers with no experience at the game's most important position. Palko was signed only this week to the practice squad, but will serve as the backup quarterback.

It would be a delicious subplot if Palko gets into the game. He was Dave Wannstedt's quarterback of choice at the University of Pittsburgh when Joe Flacco went there. Flacco saw the writing on the wall -- that he wasn't going to play -- and left for Delaware. Now Flacco is the established NFL quarterback and Palko is some guy trying to hold a job.

Wannstedt.  Nuff said.

Ditto.  No win is cheap these days.  Plus, beating a hated division rival like the Steelers under any circumstances is a good thing.

Ravens have a tendency to win ugly anyway, so I think their fans are fairly immune to ugly wins.

Indeed.  Dixon made some good plays earlier on, but you wouldn't want to see him run the ball too often, what with the fact that his backup was nobody.

The Ravens have had a habit over the years in making relative unknown QBs as knowns.  It actually worked in the Steelers' favor in announcing his start at the last minute, after the Ravens prepped all week for Roflsburger.

Dennis Dixon was a total stud at Oregon until he blew his knee out.  He would've been a first round pick.  So he's got the athletic ability to be a bona fide pro QB.

I was actually surprised the Ravens could overcome their usual primetime game stinkitude, especially against the Steelheads.  They always lose these games.

Breaston and Leinart have a little Vince Young victims support group going on:

QuoteJust as Young had the ball last in that memorable Rose Bowl game for Texas over Southern California, he won this one in style. Arizona receiver Steve Breaston, who lost to Young while at Michigan, walked over to Leinart on the sideline early in the drive and called it deja vu.

Yeah when the Titans got the ball you knew what was going to go down.

Good game between the Steelers and Ravens.

I don't want to hear CdM cry anymore about officiating after they let the Ravens try a potential game winning field goal before OT from the wrong spot.

Dixon looked great for a 3rd stringer that's basically a rookie. Foster killed us, he couldn't get his fat ass out of Mendenhall's way.

from Wiki:

QuoteWho dat? is the name of a chant of support by fans of the New Orleans Saints, an American football team. The entire chant is: "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?"

New England and Pittsburg lost. Yay!
Saints won, yay!
Redskins lost, but that's not a surprise.  <_<

The only thing that is surprising is how they manage to do it each week.  They are bringing a certain artistry and creativity to the losing process.

Excellent - the Pats lost, but Lawrence Maroney scored a buttload of points causing my fantasy team to move to 10-2.

I just realized the Bungles are playing the Vikes at Minnesota in a couple weeks rather than playing them at home.  Sucks-- I was hoping to get to see Favre play again.

It's okay, though.  Next week I get to see: the Lions.

This is the first year ever in the LFFL my first round pick (Drew Brees) hasn't totally tanked.  My end result though?  Every other play I drafted or picked up doing terrible.  Ugh.  I just can't win. :(
