Apropos of nothing, I'm taking the GRE next month. I'm not pleased to be taking the "adult" version of the SATs. <_<
Why?
I'm not quite sure how to answer that question.
Can't answer a simple question like that and plan to take GRE? :o
If it's anything like the MCAT, getting a high score is more about gaming the test than knowing the material.

What I hate are the freakin' analogies.
Dolphin:Mammal::
a) Larvae:Insect
b) Penguin:Bird
c) Computer:Machine
d) incorrect choice
e) incorrect choice
While both b and c satisfy the "type of" relationship, the best answer is b because penguins and dolphins are both types of animals that live in water...
I would have answered "d"
d was sonnet:stanza
Hmm...in an example of how to do an analogy when you don't really know one of the words, the word is coquette. <_<

E looks like a much better answer.
:( I liked D better when it was 'incorrect choice'
I always score amazingly well on tests like that
Which leads me to believe that they are complete bollocks

Well, if there are 5 possible answers to each question, you should get at least 20% of them right just by pure chance.

You can say the same thing about any high stakes test, unfortunately.

Doesn't help much if there is a guessing penalty. Even without guessing penalty, 20% is probably not going to be enough to pass.
I'm going to assume when Tricky says amazingly he means a few points higher than 20%.
Taking it next month. Most grad students at the college I take classes at have said as long as you have a 3.0 GPA the school couldn't give a damn how badly you score on it.

A 3.0 to get into a PhD program? Really?
And here I was thinking Garbs had finally come to the tech-nerd dark side and was talking about Windows' graphics runtime engine. :nerd:
:bleeding:
At least it is a respected tradition.
Fair.

Over carrot's post, not over the test. ;)
Cripes; you people have no sense of humor this week.
Anyway, garbs, good luck on the test. The lead-up to the test is always worse than the beast itself.

I meant more along the lines of what do you plan to go for? Giving up glamourous life to go back full time or ?
Don't tell him.

My life as of late has been anything but glamorous (although I suppose Europe jet setting was). Yeah, I'd be going back full time if I went. I'm just exploring my options. I'm also still looking at other companies.
Yeah the glamour part was in jest. Well best of luck whatever you do.
Just keep your mitts of my Ds.
