Wish I had a piece of this action. Does Wacko still own the rights? Not sure how that works.
The Beatles have broken multiple chart records around the world following the September 9, 2009 (9-9-09) CD release of their digitally re-mastered catalogue.
In the major music markets of North America, Japan and the UK, consumers purchased more than 2.25 million copies of The Beatles' re-mastered albums, individually and in two multiple-CD boxed sets, one in stereo and one in mono, during the first five days of release.
Canada: The Beatles have 15 of the top 20 catalogue titles including all of the top 11. The stereo boxed set is a new entry in the current albums chart at number four, the highest debut for a boxed set in Canada since Nielsen SoundScan started tracking sales. Cumulative sales across all titles were just under 160,000 over the counter.
Jackson merged the catalogue with Sony for cash, then took a loan, giving Sony the option to later increase their stake to 75%. I do not know if they have exercised that.

I can state with full confidence that Michael Jackson no longer owns the rights to the Beatles. :P

That's where the money is... :)
Jackson's estate does not own any rights in the Beatles recordings either.
His family trust does own a 50% stake in a company called Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, a New York-based limited liability company. That company owns the rights to the recordings.
So does Paul, Ringo and various estates get anything out of this? I'm never quite sure how royalties and all that stuff works.

They get some of it.
As I understand it there are different kinds of rights. In particular there are publishing rights (the kind MJ bought), and performance rights (which the Beatles members still control).
Snopes has a good summary (which I double-checked to make sure I had the facts right ).

I've listened to some of those new cds. very nice remasters. I will buy a few select albums from this release. Never trust anyone who dislikes the Beatles (as a group, individuals are fair game)
Thanks for that link BB. Makes sense.
Buddha, yeah I have no interest in the whole boxed set, but Abbey Road, Rubber Soul and possibly Pepper sound interesting to me.
hmmm
White Album
Rubber Soul
Abbey Road
are certain for me. I can be a sucker though when prices are good on stuff like this.

That's one of the best things about the Beatles, their songs are infinitely remakeable. They're a renewable resource more than they are a band at this point. Still Awesome imho though.

Target has about as good a deal on these as you will see, I think. The single-CD albums are marked down to $11.98 and you get a $5 gift card if you buy 2. I bought Revolver and Abbey Road and immediately ripped them in WMA lossless. Played them from my Zune over my receiver in 5-channel stereo & they sounded amazing :)
I think I might go back for The White Album and Past Masters. My brother is going to pick up some CDs; I hope he buys some I don't have
Beatles Rock Band is a pretty solid game as well. You can tell they put a buttload of effort into it.

Well, I guess I sort of have a similar quirk: I don't like anything John Lennon did outside of the Beatles.

What platforms did they release it for?
Kids have GTWT for Wii, but frankly the song list for that game is appalingly bad.. esp. for kids, So I was curious to see if I could get some additional songs.

Xbox 360, PS3, & Wii. Surprisingly, it seems like kids are playing this game; it's selling like crazy.

Spectrum just had an article on how they made it:
http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/consumer-electronics/gaming/the-making-of-the-beatles-rock-band (http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/consumer-electronics/gaming/the-making-of-the-beatles-rock-band)
Most of the Beatles early recordings were on a four track; so they had to use the sort of filters the police use to isolate voices in order to take out individual insturments and vocals. Also they had to please Ringo, Paul and Yoko.

Oops, I thought you were talking about the music CD box set. The bundle with all the instruments does include the game.
I'm not sure what the compatibility is for the Wii version, but on the 360 I'm able to use both my Guitar Hero guitars and the Microsoft-branded microphone with the game.
This chart should help you: http://www.rockband.com/compatibility

Then buy Lips for the 360 if you can find a deal. It has some CCR songs you can download. It got so-so reviews but it's a fun party game. Of course, Beatles Rock Band is also fun to play with multiple people (you can just sing if you don't want to play any instruments).
My wife will play the Lips game with me sometimes, but she absolutely hates when I play any Rock Band or Guitar Hero game.
