I've been flipping through the channels to fight insomnia, and I came upon Bill Cosby on Larry King show discussing education. Cosby seemed completely out of it. He was incoherent when making a point, didn't answer the questions that were asked and instead just rambled on about what he wanted to ramble about, looked totally bored and disinterested when the other guy was talking, and seemed to be in complete la-la-land when it came to policy suggestions (we should double the money spent on education per child, yeah, sure, that's realistic). Is age catching up with him, or was he always a couple of bricks short of a load?
He's been like that in any interview I can remember.

And that was any different from Larry King how, exactly?
Bill is a visionary; a modern day philosopher. He doesn't need to be realistic, he needs to help figure out what needs to be done.
Education in America needs work, and all everyone else is saying is "It worked when I was a kid!"

Why would anyone be interested in what Larry King was saying?
I don't get King's show. It used to be he'd ask the stupidest softball questions imaginable. Now I think he just gives his guest a mike and lets them talk.

Thats how he plans it. His Ideal show is when he just introduces the guest and lets him speak for the full hour.
I really think King is the worst talk show host I've ever seen. I have no idea how he's managed to have such a great career. Maybe he gives really good head or something.

Maybe because he did it first. I think he was there at the start of CNN?
He seems like an American David Frost, with a less interesting career.
Well, he was doing talk radio since the 1970s, I think... so yeah there's the longevity.
But even before he got senile, I thought he was horrible. I mean, I find Diane Rehm easier to listen to and she's got that weird dysphonia disorder. :x
Also, there's clearly something wrong with him on a deeply personal level:

So the dude like to have sex & somehow can't do it without getting married first? He's old, that's his generation.

My assumption is that either a) he has no clue how to get along with anyone, or b) he has horrible judgment and kept picking lunatics for wives.
Now that he's so old he probably won't leave his current wife... she prolly acts like his caretaker.

The other guy was Ed Rendell. And King was asking Cosby whether more money for education meant better outcome, and where should one draw the line, which was a very thoughtful question, but it just wasn't getting through to Cosby. King actually asked it twice, and got rambles from Cosby both times. It was sad to watch.

Sad, yeah. And this from Cosby who has been talking about things like taking responsibility, bettering yourself, etc. Positive stuff. I guess he speaks mainly to the black community, and gets flack for that, but the issues can apply to anyone.

Picture Pages > Fat Albert. Now, if only Mushmouth had been on Picture Pages, the should would have been PERFECT.

I dunno. Years go by, you remember the good times, forget the bad times, think things can be different on round two, and so on...
...surprised it doesn't happen more, actually, but I guess it requires both people to stay in the same geographic area and social circles.
I wonder if that has ever worked out?
Maybe if the main reason the marriage failed is because the two of you were too young and immature.

Heck, any interview with almost any politician.

Politicans understand that any choice they make will piss off someone somewhere, so they spin their position to make it sound warm and fuzzy.
They also understand that circumstances (public opinion in particular) can change, so they try to leave some wiggle room. That's honest, more honest than saying "I will renegociate NAFTA" then later saying it was taken out of context or whatever.
Tim Russert would ask clarifying questions; if the guest waffled he would repeat it, if the guest waffled again he knew there was no point in going on.
His show was a good source of information, but you had to read the subtext, much like diplomatic language.
Totally unfair
