I can't decide whether I like this better than Evert's own rendition, but her crooning certainly adds a certain je ne sais quois

I find it very beautiful, definitely added. And I agree that her singing renders well the melancholy of this song.
However, I cannot find Evert Taube's version on Youtube. And my knowledge of Evert Taube is very, very thin. :(
How much Bellman do you know, Drakken?

Except for "Gustafs skål", none. :(

There are always
other venues to acquire hard-to-find mp3s. :pirate
Should you venture boldly forth into the unknown, make sure you get his early works, as the stuff produced in the winter of his years may be quaint but is generally of low standard music-wise.
Edit: I constantly get Sven-Bertil and Evert confused. Embarrassing.

Nigga's a giant (as you know). Study his work.

Although to be entirely fair, he does have character. :D
And for the grand finale, one of my favourite walzes. "Sjösala vals" performed by his son, Sven-Bertil.
Never fails to put a smile to my face.

Sven-Bertil is a great guy.

I am confident that, like all of his ilk, when you meet him he turns out to be a real asshole and a pedofile. :P

Sorry, any guy who's played a German paratrooper in a major movie is OK.

A drunkard and a whoremonger, Cornelis is my kind of guy. :smoke:
Chasing two transvestites down the street in a rage after they followed him home under false flag = classic.

He did have a penchant for writing pretty offensive melodies.
Robert Gustavsson does a pretty impressive Cornelis! :worthy:

While we're on the subject of drunkards, here's a party classic that you should be ashamed if you've missed, Drakken:

Modern classic (feel free to ignore the mime, listen to the song): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4HH6FDwj5Q

Cornelis Vreeswijk supposedly did this on one occasion.
According to his wiki entry, he was incarcerated for 2 months for battery since he gave one of them a gash with his knife. Doesn't say anything about chasing them down the street though, only that he realized his mistake when in his appartment.

He got the operation free? Nigga should be grateful.

Being in Canada, and thus without a thriving Swedish community, it's easy for me to miss all the Swedish classics.
On that note, to show that I am not ALL that ignorant, today is the 119th anniversary of Anna Månsdotter's execution for murder and incest in the notorious Yngsjö murder case.
I love the little circle above letters.

I may have exaggerated a bit.
Personally, I do not see your infatuation with that blighted country. You're 200 years too late for any meaningful nationalist fervour, and any patriotism today is seriously misdirected, since the country is full of swine, swindlers, cowards and sycophants.
Drakken, you should check out "Svarta Ballader" by Sofia Karlsson. She's putting some own colour to the old Thorstein Bergman arrangements.

You probably love Motley Crue as well. <_<
Another classic Swedish folk tune I knew I had heard somewhere, and now that I have finally identified after some search: Jag vill tacka livet, by Arja Saijonmaa.
http://www.imeem.com/people/SZoRLP/music/Uejkrrzs/intiillimani-och-arja-saijonmaa-jag-vill-tacka-livet/
Oddly, last time I have heard it in as a background song in a documentary on Olof Palme's murder.
Also, I have finally decided to take back the feather and begin writing again, in the full aim to finally publish (I'm like 10 years late). So I'll need to catch up on contemporary and classic Swedish poetry (no, Millenium doesn't count).
Any good website to order Swedish books internationally? Seems Sweden is too backward to have an Amazon page. :P
The imho two best sites, cdon.se and www.adlibris.com, do not ship overseas. The oldest one actually does: http://www.bokus.com/
You may also want to acquaint yourself with Jussi Björling, if you have not already. He is a great source of inspiration for Pavarotti who has modelled his career after him by taking the same roles, listening to his renditions of operas, and trying to sing the same way.
Some swedish songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t944plCTZ4 (Till havs)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXPPMYyJl-g (Ack Värmeland, du sköna)
And while not in Swedish, his rendition of Nessun Dorma is one of the most beautiful things out there, at least in my opinion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUbA5y1hnFg
There's also Bokbörsen, http://www.bokborsen.se/ , for second-hand literature. If you ask the sellers nicely, I'm sure they'll be happy to ship overseas.
