So, after the events of today, what do you guys think will happen (and succeed) first to kick the orange one from the White House? Impeachment? Invocation of the 25th amendment? Shit will keep happening until the 20th? Something else? Or is this the beginning of the Trumpocracy?

I did a separate thread in order not to clutter the other one and because I wanted to have a poll.  :P

The GOP will still try to appeal to Trumpists.

Not till the 20th and still saying he was robbed of victory.

I hope not the 25th. He'll be able to claim insanity later.

At this point I wouldn't mind him going out like Tony Montana.

There will be a second set of articles of impeachment drawn up. Then we will see.

On January 20th, he will lock himself in his office, and as an angry mob of Democrat voters storm the White House, he will commit suicide with his weapon. ;)

Nah.

He will leave by himself, once he sees a majority of Republicans, including Pence, pushing him out.  However, he will keep making trouble until the very end, most likely even after, and then he will leave the country, at least for a while, wait if there are any indictments against him before returning.

Impeachment takes to long and I doubt they can get the votes to oust him via the 25th.  He'll leave the normal way.

Can impeachment be fast-tracked, if there is a will?  Let's say that Trump came out and said that there was no election fraud, and now all the Trumptards call him a RINO and call for his impeachment.  Can they finish all the proceedings in a day if they wanted to, or are there minimum statutory delays?

Hell lock himself in the Oval Office and refuse to leave. The police and secret service won't do anything because Trump is a white male.

He won't leave until the Secret Service walks him out. He will then claim that he was waiting for a security detail because of everyone who hates Amerika.

I just realized that I didn't include the possibility of resignation, but of course that's not going to happen.

He left the presidency three or four years ago, he's just been occupying the white house when not on a golf course or at an ego-boosting victory rally.

I don't think he'll want videos of him being escorted, lifted or dragged out of the White House.  He'll leave on his own.  Probably a few hours or a day before 20 January.  Of course, he'll make some big statements.

I think he needs to be impeached or removed through the 25th now. He shouldn't have pardon powers. He shouldn't have a platform which he always will while he's President. He shouldn't still be able to give order to the military and in a position to force them to make a choice of whether to follow them or not.

After today I think if he's allowed to carry on until the 20th it's basically a risk decision by Congressional Republicans that he won't do anything else - and I'm not sure what you can really base that on.

But I think he probably will stay in office until the 20th - he won't participate in the inauguration or be able to allow Biden the spotlight, I'm not sure what he'll do though.

Not enough time to impeach him even with the party starting to be reasonable. Hopefully he faces charges once out of office though.
I am really curious what will happen on transition day. I have an image of him being very literally evicted.

Isn't he supposed to fly to Scotland the day before?

Although that might not be good news: Orban has always stayed away from Parliament when the most outrageous bills of his were voted on.

Scotland has denied him entry on that day, I think.

I don't know if we've gone that far but the Scottish government have explained that traveling to a gold resort is not essential travel and could be in breach of the covid regulations

Right.  If he has his way this is what he'll do.  He needs to be the center of attention at all times and he'll be jealous of Biden having his day in the sun, so he'll want to hold an opposing rally someplace where he'll denounce the election for the millionth time and tell his deranged fans that he's still the legit President.

After yesterday I'm not sure if he'll actually be able to do that again. :hmm:

And then the crazies at the rally will march on Biden's inauguration ceremony and attack it while the police look on.

The police won't just look on.
They'll tear gas and beat Biden's supporters and shoot Kamela Harris in the back for "resisting arrest".

They'd need a Republican vote in the Senate, since Harris doesn't take over until the 20th.

Obvious how it plays out. Mitch says that such serious charges require serious consideration and it isn't possible to schedule a trial in less then 2 weeks.  Biden gets inaugurated and tells Nancy and Chuck to shut it down and deprive the orange bastard of the oxygen of the news cycle.

the only possible driver would be genuine feat that Trump will do something horribly destructive in the next 13 days.  Trump's hostage video seems to have filled its purpose of providing sufficient hope he will just sit on his ass and shut up the rest of the way. or at least a leafy enough fig for Gopcowards.

I'm still hoping that a lot of Republicans are happy to kick Trump while he's down, as long as they can be sure that they can kick him to death.  A lot of them are probably horrified at the thought of being held hostage to him indefinitely, just like they have been the last four years.  However, if Republicans do turn on him, they'll only do so if they can do so nearly unanimously.  It will either be 92-7 or Democrats with Mitch again.

If Mitch went along it would provide enough cover to get 2/3rds though.

It doesn't look like Warnock and Ossoff will have their election results confirmed until about the time Biden is sworn in as President so that kind of reduces the odds.

Mitch doesn't just have to go along, he also has to make sure that few of any Republicans get to grandstand as the one true defender of Trump.  It has to be a near-unanimous denunciation so that no one is left to lead the charge.

Not going to happen. They're too fearful of of losing the resentful white vote. I mean, over 100 Republican Representatives voted against the certification of the vote. That amount of hostility didn't make it into Congress by accident.

Probably not, but loss of power can come very suddenly, especially in authoritarian systems (and Trump's power is very authoritarian in nature).  If everyone decides that now is the time to turn on the alpha male, then what was unthinkable yesterday can become inevitable tomorrow.  It's not like Trump has been an asset in elections lately.
