More people like Martinus, Sahib and Jools?
Never heard of those movies. Megan Fox it is.
Null vote. Women can't act as well as men, and I think it's cruel to give them awards, as their achievements are laughable. Kind of like the Special Olympics.

Only one I've seen was The Reader, which I thought was awful.
My vote is for Scott-Thomas. :frog:
Pics?
All great turns. Voted Rebecca Hall
Only seen Vicky Christina Barcelona so voted for Rebecca Hall (although I would have given the prize to Penelope Cruz instead). Great movie, btw. :D

Sorry Habs.
Have heard of those movies but not seen any of them, because no one I know wanted to see them, too.

Only one I saw was the Reader. There wasn't enough killin' in it.
I haven't seen any. So I voted for Lara Croft. Megan Fox is promising but still needs more tattoos.
Anyway I'm surprised Mme Streep wasn't mentioned for her role in "Doubt".

I'm waiting for a critically acclaimed, ethically ambiguous movie about a male concentration camp guard bonking a 15 y.o. girl and see if there is an Oscar in it. :P

What's wrong with going to movies alone? More than half of the movies I see in cinemas is alone.

I went to Attack of the Clones alone and the movie was so horrible I decided I could never see a movie alone again.

After a few years, you get tired of watching obvious Oscar-bait movies.

The original movie? Hell yeah, even though they killed Optimus Prime, Megatron, Skywarp and Thundercracker. It was an excellent piece of filmmaking.
The one from a couple years back? I dunno. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't magical for me either.
The recent sequel? Haven't seen it.
Why do you ask?

Whether a movie is good or bad has little to do with whether I'll enjoy watching it. A lot of the movies I've enjoyed have been objectively bad.

I just saying you shouldn't act like "did you enjoy the movie" and "was the movie good" are the same question, they're not.

And Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep are trying to collect as many as possible on that formula. Either of those two women being in a film is an automatic veto for me personally. They're good at what they do, but my personal distaste for them has reached the point where I'm not willing to give them a couple hours of my time anymore.
I've only seen The Reader and Changeling. I suppose Kate acted well but then the male lead was quite wooden in his role so anyone would have come out looking good. Angelina was good in her role but without having seen the others, I'd be quite hesitant to say her performance was best.

The Reader deals with many things, however the primary theme is collective German guilt for the Holocaust.

The primary theme is the plausibility of being so embarrassed that one is illiterate that one decides to jail Jews and then take the fall for ordering them to be killed.

You realize Michael (Fiennes) is a damaged, emotionally unavailable (wooden) man by the 1970s?
Fiennes is brilliant as adult Michael, and I ball like baby at the films' end.
You'd think a movie with Germans in it would have more bloodhsed.

He doesn't come off realistically damaged nor was he provided a good backstory for being damaged (oh noes! I could have saved a woman from prison that I once loved but I can't reveal her secret that she can't read! Besides as an SS guard she must have done something bad.)
I yawned and wondered why I wasted my time.

I agree. I really dislike the pressure to have an opinion immediately when I go with people. I like the walk home from the cinema because it let's me think the film through. I went to see 'The Wrestler' with people and thought it was good, I went back when I was alone and left convinced that it was the only very good film I'd seen that had been released that year.

Sadly, I have no time for movies anymore, so I haven't seen any of the aforementioned films. However, Winslet keeps getting better looking as she gets older, and her acting is usually superb, so I went with her.
