The entry for DEFCON may have been written by fahdiz:
QuoteDEFCON is the strategy game most likely to make you wake up in a cold sweat. It's an abstract simulation of thermonucler war, in which the tension rises along with the DEFCON level, and frantic deals lead to bitter betrayal. It's a game in which people are reduced to numbers (and ashes). Scores are measured in megadeaths inflicted and, in the default setting, causing a megadeath on an opponent's territory is worth two points while losing a million citizens in your own territory only loses one point. The value of life.
The presentation is immaculately sinister and minimalist, and while DEFCON is unlikely to keep you playing through the night, you might lose sleep anyway. The closest strategy gaming comes to horror.
I've played all of six of those games.
1 Civilization IV
2 Alpha Centauri
....
5 King of Dragon Pass
....
28 Rise of Nations
......
43 The Settlers II
.....
50 Transport Tycoon
I have not played (i.e. spent at least an hour with) these games (though I own some of them, thanks to sales):
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
Homeworld
Invisible, Inc. [new entry]
Dominions IV
Total War: Warhammer [new entry]
Neptune's Pride
StarCraft II
AI War
Dwarf Fortress
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War
Wargame: AirLand Battle
Startopia
The Banner Saga 2 [new entry]
Offworld Trading Company [new entry]
Ground Control
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
Command and Conquer/Dune deserves some mention.
Civ IV?
Startopia isn't a very good game let alone great.

Oh, for fuck's sake.
I've played:
2 Alpha Centauri
3 Crusader Kings II
24 Galactic Civilzations 2
27 Gary Grigsbys War in the East
39 Heroes of Might and Magic III
47 Imperialism 2 [new entry]
That's 7 of 50.
I'd only consider CKII, War in the East, and HoMMIII great games. Though to be honest, there haven't been 50 PC strategy games that I'd consider to actually be great. And Master of Orion (I or II, definitely not 3), Master of Magic, and Colonization should be in there somewhere.
Startopia is trippy while waiting for the novocaine to wear off and the vicodin to kick in.
I've played 33 of the 50 on the list. Startopia isn't one of them...
Only 3 here from that list.
HoI 4? TW: Warhammer? Really?
A pity that the Imperialism series stopped at just 2.

Yeah that was a great series.

Trump bought the rights, hear he's planning on doing a MMRWRPG version.

Yeah that makes me wonder how they compile this list. HOI IV?
HoI after 2 is just awful.
QuoteSmall typo?
No, the site says IV. Which is just odd. How is 4 better than 5? (I've yet to play 6)
I think the sequels are counted as the entire series. For instance, Civ II was the game in that series I got the most fun out of. I've played 29. That all the games aren't from the last five years. Some call-backs to the 1990's are good. I didn't play PC games in the 1980's so I don't know much about those.

I really only enjoyed Imperialism II, despite various bugs.
More than the very good already Conquest of the New World, better than Colonization IMO (unless it's the modded new version).

I think I'd say II and IV are my favorites. Played a lot more of each one of them than I played out of V. VI is nice but as their blurb about Civ suggested, it still has a bit to go before its the best of the series.

I dunno. Colonization (the original version) was very good. I loved the idea of crating up horses and storing them for use in the war for Independence.
Imperialism II was good, but not that good.
Jagged Alliance 2 the number ten strategy game of all time?
Fuckin' A. This game never got the praise it deserved. I still play it today.
I liked Imperialism I better than II.
Colonization was far superior to Conquest of the New World.
The biggest joke of the list is Panzer Corps, how a graphic improvement of the good ole Panzer General made it to 19 is beyond me.
Panzer General II, People's General are way ahead, despite being published in the '90s. Open General, Battle of Wesnoth for the Panzer General series, is so much better and no DLCs to buy.
I liked Command HQ.

I loved both of those games. They were both in heavy rotation in my earlier computer days along with No Greater Glory and Kingmaker. That being said, I think the Starcraft was the game that really broke my preference for consoles and turned it to pc. If we're going for series as opposed to the seemingly random ones listed, I've spent at least a few hours with about 11 of the different games. Some a lot more than that. Hahaha
:hmm: How many of these have I played.
1 Civilization IV
2 Alpha Centauri
3 Crusader Kings II
5 King of Dragon Pass
7 Europa Universalis IV
12 XCOM 2
24 Galactic Civilzations 2
26 Dwarf Fortress
28 Rise of Nations
32 Startopia
33 Cities: Skylines [new entry]
34 Warcraft III
35 Age of Wonders II
37 Prison Architect [new entry]
39 Heroes of Might and Magic III
44 Battle for Wesnoth
46 Warlords II [This is a typo as their list has a page about Warlords III]
48 RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
So 18.
1 Civilization IV
2 Alpha Centauri
3 Crusader Kings II
5 King of Dragon Pass
7 Europa Universalis IV
8 Endless Legend
9 Homeworld
13 Distant Worlds: Universe
18 Company of Heroes
21 StarCraft II
23 DEFCON
24 Galactic Civilzations 2
26 Dwarf Fortress
27 Gary Grigsby's War in the East
28 Rise of Nations
29 Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War
31 Championship Manager: Season 01/02
32 Startopia
33 Cities: Skylines [new entry]
34 Warcraft III
37 Prison Architect [new entry]
39 Heroes of Might and Magic III
40 Offworld Trading Company [new entry]
45 Darkest Dungeon [new entry]
48 RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
Oh gosh, 25 of them  and other games in the Total War, XCOM and Banner Saga series.
Most hours spent on:
Civilization franchise
Alpha Centauri
CK2
GalCiv 2
Championship Manager franchise
Total tally of hours: ridiculous.

If giving it a try counts as playing, then I am around 37

I liked Seven Cities of Gold better than either of those.
Yes. I preferred the first imperialism. That game needs a remake.
Colonisation.... could never get into. I didn't like the linearity and forcing you into this path that a war for independence was the only right way.
