It seems to be controversial with some geeks.
If the wording doesn't strike you as meaning such take the poll as a rank out of 6 with the bad options being of equal intensity to the good options.
Have only watched till season 6, but I enjoyed it.
Bang average sitcom. The geek angle made it amusing at first, but I gave up on it when the novelty wore off.
Great show.
I've never watched it.
If only some of the characters' smarts rubbed off on the writers.
I want to see more celebrity cameos, sex, and musical episodes.
Like Syt, I enjoyed the first 6 seasons. Suffered thru 7 & haven't bothered since. I don't find most modern american sitcoms to be funny anymore.
It's meh.
Gotta deal with enough autistic fucksticks in life as it is, don't need to watch sitcoms about them.

Two too many. Sheldon needs to get shived with a slide rule.

It has. He is called Raj. He is also the only character who has had no positive development at all - except his gay-ass dog.
For the record, Leonard is easily one of the most cringeworthy characters of all time. Johnny Galecki is a great sit-com actor.
And the worst is, he used to tap that when filming the early seasons. :perv:

It was on some annoying channel or other here in the UK, one with adverts. I caught an episode by chance and was amused so I bought the DVD of the first five seasons. My wife liked it too so we watched these together but had no inclination to watch further episodes as we felt it was on that well trod downward track.
The series' trajectory is downwards now.
I still find it amusing at times, but for some reason, it's one of those series where 20 minute episodes seem to be 5-6 minutes too many.
Seen a few episodes at random, but never really got into, nor does it capture my interest.
At least it's not actively ofensive to good taste like Two and a Half Men.

There's a commercial that played before the actual clip you linked. Unfortunately, it's a breakfast cereal commercial with a lot of little kids in it, which given your sentence posted above creates an unfortunate impression when it starts playing.

Huh. Kaley Coco-puffs? I thought, for some reason, that both Galecki and Sheldon's actor were gay. Ah well none of my business really. Good for him either way.
I've heard Parsons is gay; never heard that about any of the others.

Wonder what he meant by that.
People talk about their significant other to almost anyone and if they're in a casual conversation with people they're comfortable with may discuss what kind of features they like/people they're attracted to/etc. They don't have to talk about their "sexuality" in the abstracted form that Marty drones on about.
Pleasantly surprised at the positivity about the show.
I quite like it. It's not something I love and absolutely have to see but it is probably the best American sitcom going. Good light tv.
Yet what prompted this post....on Facebook a friend, for the nth time, going on about how bad it was, how it was just nerd blackface and too many geeks were too stupid to realise non geeks were laughing at them, etc....

 Jokes are hitting too close to home or what? I think it is very important to be able to laugh at the quirky things of your own subculture and Big Bang is pretty good for that. Not nearly as awesome as the early seasons, but I still watch it.
And your friend is totally wrong because I have not encountered a single non-geek who enjoys the show. It is about geeks laughing at themselves, which I enjoy doing.
It is not the best American sitcom going. By far. It might be the most popular and/or watched, but it is not the best in terms of quality.
What is better?
I can't think of much else good at the moment.
Brooklyn Nine Nine I guess. And........err......
I feel its something aimed at my geeky demographic, albeit a wee bit younger (despite some actors being in their 40s). but I don't identify or sympathise with anyone in it and it's far too mainstream to appeal to real geeks. It's geeks as written by a committee of creatives targeting awards and viewing figures.
Something like Pegg and Frost's Cornetto film trilogy and Spaced TV series hit that nerd-comedy niche far better while remaining popular and properly funny.

Kimmy Schmidt
And that's whithout having seen stuff like Veep, Silicon Valley, Transparent...
For the sake of the American people, I certainly hope that Big Bang Theory isn't the best sitcom going.
Best doesn't mean all time great. We are in a pretty low spell for comedy :p
I wouldn't rate modern family higher. But yes to KS. Hope the second series hurries up.
Modern Family took a bit to grow on me, but I like it a lot better than Big Bang Theory.

That's the way I saw it; too self-consciously wannabe-geek-hip. Not my cup of tea, but if others enjoy it, then good for them.

I try to make a distinction between more traditional recorded-live-before-a-studio-audience sitcoms like
Big Bang Theory, and prefab productions like
Modern Family; the storyline writing is different, the joke structure is different, so I think it's a bit unfair to group them together.
But yeah, the "live" sitcom format has been hurting on US television for quite some time. For me, the only one out there really worth watching is
Mom; it's actually a bit of a throwback to the 70's style of sitcom--truly acerbic, almost bordering on cruel, comedy on issues like recovery and single motherhood, with a bit of occasionally relevant but appropriately portioned drama.

Mrs. berkut really likes that one, and I've found myself liking it despite myself.
It really is very stark at times, and not in the fart joke way of something like Two and a Half Men, but in a much more real and honest way.
