Time I had a haircut, no not my creditors. :D
So how much do you pay for a haircut, going rate around here seems to be $15 for a real basic man's cut, though much like women's hairdressing, you can increasingly pay for whatever your fancy take you.
For a long time I had Princesca cut my hair, so $0, but I found a great old-school barber shop by my new house that'll do it for $12.
Nothing.
My wife cuts all of our hair.

Not very good 'old-school' barbers here charge about $15 ( 9 quid).
Seems to be a fashion in the UK nowadays to open a hairdressers, nail-shop or cheap coffee shop if you've some redundancy money to burn or can't think of a good business idea yourself.
What is redundancy money?

I have it done between 9-11 pounds at a barber shop.
16$, tip included.

I have tried places that cost more than that. Guess what, there is no difference. For a basic man's haircut, paying more just won't yield better results. My theory is that the better places are only meaningful if you want more complex designs.
16$ for me, and I usually give a few bucks tip for a total of 20$.
The prices are very consistent.

That would also be a typical fare for a normal men's haircut at a mainstream place in Warsaw, so neither at some dingy barber shop, nor a "coiffure artiste" where you have to make an appointment days in advance.
Zero unless you amortize the cost of the clippers my wife uses. I feel like I'm missing out, though, because that Sport Clips place looks pretty cool.

This is a weird thing about America - on one hand you guys are so egalitarian, on the other you have some really weird cult of personality shit like having public holidays on presidents' and generals' birthdays. Even monarchies usually limit themselves to the *current* monarch.

Most of the holidays have a historical social/religions reason though (in fact apart from the 3 bank holidays, I think all of the holidays have an explicit one - and UK only has 8 or so mind you). And Early May Bank Holiday, I believe is just what UK changed to so that there was no link to socialist May Day. Spring Bank Holiday being replacement for what was Whit Monday. Only one I can think of that doesn't quite have a reason is this coming one.

In former times we did have something called "Saint Monday" here in England. Essentially it was a matter of dissolute workers boozing it up on a Sunday, instead of going to church, and then taking the following Monday off as a holiday.

These are the holidays I get:
New Years
MLK Day
Memorial Day (for veterans)
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
And that is it. That is probably fairly standard, although some people may get holidays like Veterans Day, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, or the day after Thanksgiving off (those are probably the most common).
Government offices get more holidays, and states governments go by their own rules. So if you hear about state holidays, it will seem like we have a lot because we have 50 states doing their own thing. But you also have to keep in mind that unless you are a government worker most people aren't affected by other holidays.
I get MLK Day off but I always have to work anyway since it's year-end close. :accountingprobs:

Yeah these are not real holidays. Just an excuse to save some money in the public budget by shutting down state services for a few extra days. LBJ would appreciate that.

Christmas
Float day to take when I want.
In Kentucky we get no special holidays. :(
Derby Day is kind of a holiday though, in that tons of people take the day off and most people that don't just come to work and do nothing but talk about whatever Derby party they're throwing or going to.

20-25€ if I want to have it done properly. Whenever I go to cheaper places I get an awful 'do.
I have been going to the same barber for about the last 10+ years. He has a fascinating story. He is a Christian Armenian who owned a very trendy hair salon in Tehran in the 70s. After the revolution he tried to make a go of it but it became untenable for him. He managed to get out of the country and come to Canada with his family but he was financially wiped out. He is advanced in age now. My boys and I get charged 30 bucks a cut and I give him a significant tip - the stories he has to tell alone are worth the price.

Haircut or anniversary dinner at the gas station?
£20/$30 for a haircut. It's near work so I don't have to worry about finding time on a weekend or getting home before the place shuts.
Interesting results so far even allowing for the Languish skinflintery, maybe one of our economicalist type dudes should make a past-participial-parity-purchasing(thingy) index as a replacement for the big mac one?
I usually go to Haircuttery ($18 + $4 tip). I tip well for haircuts.
Here, I've been paying a very laconic and grizzled old gay farmer (ex-Air Force, natch) $20 total, and I tend to tip on the high side. So I think the list price is $15 or $16.
Really glad I found his place. Before Mike's, I used to go to a real shitty barbershop/hairdresser combo type place where the lady's enormous stomach was pressed against my neck the whole time and she kept coercing me into letting her use horrible "thinning shears," this huge jagged key-looking thing, in a vain attempt to tame the shock of bushy un-combability presented by my scalp. That experience would set me back $17 plus tip.
Or else if desperate I'd go to the guy by my house, who would really nastily insult his wife to me while she sullenly scrubbed the floor in the same room and gave me death stares, and to drag me into pretty unsubtle racist conversations about the "new people" in the neighborhood coming up from Springfield and Hartford, with their "difficult" hair and unruly kids and bad manners. His was only $10, though.
In my experience racist barbers routinely offer a 30-40% discount :)
No racism in the barber I go to, the barbers are a mix of races and religions as are the customers. Nevertheless it is a pretty un-pc and outspoken place..........a pleasant relief from the internet where one so often seems to be dealing with either bigots or ridiculously sensitive folk.
Ha, when I lived in Massachusetts I used to call the place I went 'Racist Barber Shop' (it had no sign saying what it was actually called), because the two guys in there told each other racist jokes constantly.
I usually go to a chain barber/hairdresses shop in my nearby shopping mall. :Embarrass:

Ha, when I lived in Massachusetts I used to call the place I went 'Racist Barber Shop' (it had no sign saying what it was actually called), because the two guys in there told each other racist jokes constantly.
What a horrible place.
Yes, that's why he moved to Kentucky.

Where The Brain comes from, when you sit down for a haircut, you get to tell the racist jokes at your own pace and the barbers are expected to laugh courteously, not talk over the customer. That kind of intrusive informality is an Americanism that just doesn't fly in the real Sweden.

A schtickler, definitely.
