Title: California = Poland, Texas = North Korea

http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/2009/06/06/388-us-states-as-countries-of-equal-population/

(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstrangemaps.files.wordpress.com%2F2009%2F06%2Fusstates.jpg%3Fw%3D1024%26amp%3Bh%3D665&hash=d2374c9a3d93d4805508ab114a97c916b5442122)

QuoteAt last, the worlds of cartography, vexillology and population statistics meet! This map was inspired by earlier maps of the US, with its states renamed for countries with a similar GDP (see posts #131 and #135).

It shows each US state covered by the flag of a country with a population of comparable size. This map was made by James Richards, who also sent in a list of the pairs of US states and flags of corresponding countries. But I agree with him that "unlabeled, it's a fun test of your knowledge of nations, can you guess them all?"

I didn't verify the population numbers. :P

What the hell?  What country has the Double Headed Eagle with the same population as Vermont?  The Byzanteen Empire?

Lots of double headed eagles in eastern European countries' coats of arms. That particular one seems to be Montenegro.

The flag is probably the best thing about the country. :P

To be honest, I think this map is bollocks. All national pride aside (which I don't have much of, admittedly) I don't think Poland is anywhere near California, which is apparently the world's fourth economy. Or is it after it went bankrupt? :P

It's population sizes. Not GNP.

It is based on population only.  Poland simply has as many warm bodies as Cali.

Doesn't California have like 60 millions people?

I mean, Poland has about 36 millions (could be approaching 40 - haven't checked lately). I thought California is more populated.

Iceland only has 310,000. Which makes them the world's largest family.

No the one that did GDP had Missouri and Poland.  Missouri has 1/5th of Poland's population or according to this Nicuragua size.
