Yesterday my wife was getting her haircut. She had a new stylist who was delighted to see my wife was reading Harry Potter. The stylist was a Harry Potter fanatic. She was one of the first people in at Diagon Alley when it opened at Universal. Her boyfriend and she had a large snake they named "Slytherin." She had one of Harry Potter's spells tattooed on her arm. She took her fandom pretty far.
I was curious as to how far anyone has taken their love of a particular work of art, author or genre here.
I used to go to an anime watching group. In order to defer expenses they sold raffle tickets. Consequently I am the proud owner of a stuffed mecha, a Full Metal Alchemist notepad and a couple of anime wall scrolls that my wife won't let me hang up. I wouldn't have bought any of those things on my own, though.
I love original Star Wars so much that I saw "When Clones Attack" and "Revenge of the Sith" in the theater even after watching "The Phantom Menace" and "When Clones Attack" respectively. <_<
When I was at the Temple of Luxor in Egypt I was determined to find the graffito left by Rimbaud. I spent about ten minutes shouting "Rimbaud, French poet, Rimbaud poète français" at the guides in the temple. I did find one who understood that eventually. :bowler:
Nothing that far outside of sports.
I don't think I have any. :hmm:

Well that kind of counts.
I have many pieces of clothing with the Jets logo on them. Many were bought as gifts however...

I didn't think he was including sports. I've bought a lot of Cardinals and WVU stuff and wear it a lot, but enthusiasm for a particular team is commonplace and not too interesting to discuss.
I saw Revenge of the Sith in the theaters as well. Tim was all 'OMG this one is actually great!' and I wanted to believe him. So young and foolish I was.
Yeah, I saw all three prequels in the theatres as well.
At the time I thought Attack of the Clones was pretty decent (though my opinion has dropped).
But it was after Revenge of the Sith that I turned to my then-girlfriend and apologized for dragging her out to see it.
Attack of the Clones was so bad I was in shock. I just couldn't believe they could make Star Wars movie worse than Phantom Menace. And they did it. It was amazing.
Fisherman's Friend Original Extra Strength cough drops.
They're perfect for a night of singing, smoking cigarettes, and huffing ganja. Everyone I talk to in a karaoke joint gets offered one and gets a sales pitch.
Sometimes, if the night is very slow, I will tell the story of how I discovered them while stuck in Amsterdam in February with a chest cold.
I am planning a trip to Languedoc to visit Montsegur, Carcassonne and the church father Sauniere built; also, earlier this year I was quite stricken by the Parthenon, and even bough a mixed technique painting of a cup full of pomegranates in an Athenian gallery because I'm a sucker for the Hades/Persephone myth. But not sure if this counts as "fandom", strictly speaking.

It should have been the greatest B movie ever made. Count Dracula and a puppet fight for the fate of the universe with laser swords; how can you screw that up? Lucas certainly found a way.
I enjoyed Catherwood's drawings from Incidents of travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan so much that I was inspired to take our family vacation to Palenque; later, I bought a print of one of his lithographs, and it hangs over my fireplace.

Could that fight have ended any lamer? I was like 'Damn you Lucas you even messed this up.'
Like I've said before, my expectations for Episodes I thru III were so low that I was actually sort of impressed with Episodes II & III. Episode I was exactly as shitty as I expected.
I think I may call myself an anime fan. I refuse to buy any DVDs, Blu-ray discs, figures, mangas, toys, merchandise, etc. I may buy a few CDs provided (1) that I really like one of the songs and (2) I can't find it...elsewhere. I may also go to the concerts of my favourite composers. I think I have bought a grand total of two movie tickets, two concert tickets, and fewer than 10 anime CDs throughout the years.

Although there were MANY problems with the prequels, the main one in my view was casting. Anakin is the central character in all three movies and in all three movies was played by a totally inept actor with absolutely no charisma, not helped by terrible direction that made even Natalie Portman seem like a bad actress, which we all know isn't the case when she is well-directed.
I am a nerd/geek/sci fi movie fan I guess. Some sci fi movies I go to premieres, including midnight showings where the cosplay geeks show up.

WOuldn't that tend to show that the problem wasn't castng, but script and direction?
Christensen's career hasn't exactly taken off post-Star Wars, but he's been reasonably well-regarded in the other things he's done.
I do get dressed up in period dress and attend Jane Austen-themed balls (three times now) - though I like to think that since my costume is of a naval captain that I'm attending a Patrick O'Brian-themed ball. I guess that fits as a sort-of fandom.

Only Liam Neeson and Christopher Lee were able to get through Lucas's dialogue without looking like terrible actors. I wouldn't put any of the blame on the actors other than not being able to get through the crap that was thrown at them.
Nope, I got nothing. I don't dress up as anything or buy toys or anything. I'm really kind of dull.
I occasionally in business or personal transactions require that the other party recognize Stannis as the proper king of Westeros. I have occasionally been forced to back out of otherwise sound situations due to intransigence on this final issue.
My town once had a hockey team, that I deeply and passionately loved. It was taken from me by some podunk town that convinced the owners their enthusiasm for hockey was so great that it would overcome their poverty and sparseness. It turned out that even their biggest superfans just own a few shirts, and many of those were gifts from others. But my team is now gone, and I don't know if I will ever be able to love anything else again.

Stannis is dead.
I've travelled to obscure no name places well out of the way to see a bunch of rocks that was once a sengoku era castle.
I guess that counts.
But not much really

I consider "anything I'm prepared to wear a t-shirt of" sufficient proof of fandom.
I am a fangirl of The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy (I used to write for the fanclub magazine), Star Trek TNG, rebooted Doctor Who and Sherlock. Comics wise, Sandman, Hellblazer and Batman.

T Shirts:
Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars, Toyota FJ Cruiser events, Call of Duty, Walking Dead, Navy related, running/races.
Edit, forgot concert shirts, La Ley and Robi Draco Rosa.
T-shirts: Star Wars, Alien, Lovecraft, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Tolkien, Mad Max, Firefly, Clint Eastwood. I don't seem to own any band shirts anymore.
Plus a bunch of baseball jerseys (Pirates, Padres vintage, Mets vintage, Brooklyn vintage, Expos, Blue Jays, Angels, Mariners, White Sox vintage).
I want a a Mad Max shirt.
Back in the day Pulp Fiction hit me so hard that I became a massive Tarantino fanboy for several years around my mid-late teenage years.

Music t-shirts (mostly metal), so Marduk, In Extremo, Motörhead, Rage, Elend, Trust, plus some even lesser known bands.
As for movies, if there is a screening of a movie I am a fan, I go rewatch it if possible even if I have it on blu-ray such as To Live and Die in L.A recently on the Champs-Élysées film festival.
I suppose jerseys count as well? Well, I have a dozen of them, from Porto, Portugal, PSG plus some more... Watching a Porto-Sporting game in Paris for the Portuguese supercup does not count as a game abroad when one lives in Paris, of course.
Also a hockey jersey (Canadiens de Montréal ) given to me.
Most of the games I have seen abroad were for the Portuguese selection though. But then I can mix it with a cultural visit such as visiting Uppsala, and being told that Bergman shot Fanny and Alexander in the house I just happen to drop by.

So were mine, at least after the first one. But they did not just fail as Star Wars films but as films. I expected them to not be worthy of Star Wars or the Empire Strikes Back but at least I expected fun B movies. I mean that is what I expected from the Hobbit films and that is roughly what I got, though the 'Battle of the Five Armies' treaded perilously close to the line.

When the Phantom Menace was released on DVD, my friend and I, drunk as we both were all the time, we observed a minute of silence before the beginning of the movie. Then I think it took us like 3-4 hrs to get through the movie, always going back to every moment.
There are such movies that are infinately enhanced by the use of alcohol.
But aside that, nothing particular. No night spent in front of a theater, no tatoos, no weird pet.
