Interesting story. Didn't know ex-confederates made it to Brazil is such numbers (it has to have been more than one or two families)

Quote"They all take part in stereotypically southern things like square dances, eating fried chicken and biscuits, and listening to George Strait,"
interesting view of the South. Does that stereotype holds up? :)
Square dances, not any more. Fried chicken and biscuits, absolutely. George Strait, I guess.
Btw you'll get pilloried for posting this since it's been posted a couple times in the past.
What's wrog with fried chicken and biscuits?

Nothing.
I had fried chicken and biscuits for breakfast yesterday.
...
Ok, in truth I had a single chicken mini and a shit ton of booze.
Well, Brazil is in the South...

Yeah, that part is sort of like saying that things like breathing oxygen or taking a leak is stereotypical southern behavior.
Fried chicken is okay, but it has to be perfect. I prefer grilled. Southern style biscuits do nothing for me.
Also, apparently Cooter has released a statement on Facebook (in all caps) defending the confederate flag. Unless that's an elaborate ruse on the part of my friend that shared it.
That's Cooter's job.
:hmm: Cooter from Dukes of Hazzard?
Yes this is well known. Brazil still had slavery you see.

How many other Cooters are there?
None that I know of. But I thought he was just a fictional character
In the picture with the story they have Missouri flag, but the blue is so dark it looks black. It gives the appearance of upside down Imperial German flag. Also, who's George Strait?

Only one of the greatest country music singers of all time, dude.

The actor who played Cooter is now the head of the Texas chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Interesting.
I did know that there's a small chain of stores called Cooter's Garage or something in Tennessee. I've seen one in Nashville and one in Gatlinburg.

He also was a US Representative at one time too if i recall correctly.
That rings a bell Hose.
Also, on reflection I think he's head of the whole shebang, not just Texas.

Correct. I thought he was from Georgia which is why the Texas comment was weird to me. :hmm:

I knew about a few other countries in Central/South-America, didn't about Brazil.

My Scout troop worked concessions at his concert in San Angelo in the early 90's.

Nothing wrong, it's just not a tradition over here, for summer picknicks.

San Angelo (I was stationed there for 5 months) is another 2.5 hours from San Antonio...and there is not much there of note.
Oh. Doh :( If I ever got to San Antonio I doubt it would be for long enough to make a side trip that long. Oh well.

One could likely pull a very similar list from any town around 100,000 in population in America.
Garbon would, at least, likely be on my side. :P
Well duh. Everything between the coasts is utterly worthless to him. :)
(possible exception: Chicago)

You made a particularly bland selection from a not-especially exciting singer.
*sigh*
Does this meet with your approval instead?

Yeah, that's a fun one to sing along with.
Those two plus Give It Away are probably my three favorite songs of his.
It's definitely more of a downer song, but I like this one:

I'm not really a country music guy, but my wife is a country music gal, so I'm familiar with the genre.
George Strait is pretty decent though. :)
It's hard for me to imagine an association between "Canada" and "country western"...I always think there has to be Mounties involved somehow. :P

If you spent some time in rural Alberta or Saskatchewan your view would likely change.
