Most likely I'll be there for a week in March. :)

He's an insecure man in the closet who wants to demonstrate how rich he is. I think that makes a good starting point.

If he's not gay why is he asking for "members in San Francisco"?  It's not exactly subtle.

If I end up going, it's because Princesca has to be there for work and I'll be tagging along.  I have a few non-Languish friends who live in the Bay Area so I'll be meeting up with them, but other than that, not sure.  Can you recommend a good gay bathhouse? :)

When will you be there.  I plan a mid-March trip to see mom in Big Sur.  Sure, it is two hours away but that proximity doesn't mean we couldn't fail to meet somewhere.

I propose a Gilroy meet!

No, there is only like 1 or 2 of those in the city and I don't know anything about them. The main one that people would go to - wasn't even inside the city.

I'll be staying in Fisherman's Wharf.  I've been told I should rent a bike and ride from there across the Golden Gate to Sausalito.  I may just do that one of the days Princesca is working.

In the 60s my parents thought about buying a nice house in Tiburon near Point Tiburon.  They didn't because the drive to Saint Francis Hospital (where my dad worked as a surgeon) from there was too long...too bad, they would have made out like bandits later.

Cool. Did you see that documentary about what it's like to be an heir/heiress to a multi-millionaire fortune? His daughter was in it, she seemed sweet if a little naive (though she was a teen at the time, so it makes sense).

Trump hotels... are they expensive and luxurious? Is that the thing?

Couple of reasons.  He's an icon in the American real estate industry which is the industry that I'm in, and even though he's repeatedly gone bankrupt he manages to bounce back over and over.  On top of that, he's a hilarious troll (see: constant threats to run for President, The Apprentice, involvement with pro wrestling, etc.)  He's also, behind his fake public persona,  pretty philanthropic.  When I lived in Boston the medical center I worked at used to use his club in Palm Beach, the Mar-A-Lago, to host charity events.  I never met him but my boss did on numerous occasions and she said in "real life" he's surprisingly chill and funny.

I dunno about all of them but that one is five stars, so that one is at least.  In general I stay at Hiltons just to rack up all of the Hilton points (like when I had to go to Pennsylvania for my grandfather's funeral, hotel was free after I burned through some).  The main reason I stayed at the Trump this week was because our travel coordinator lady at work negotiated an insanely steep corporate rate there in January... it's the same price as the Westin next to my office now.

So garbon is right about Fisherman's Wharf.  We had breakfast al fresco which was nice until a crazy dude came up to us and started shouting.  Fucking crazy beggars everywhere.

Also, riding the cable cars is fun for about 30 seconds then it becomes just like riding the Green Line in Boston (i.e. uncomfortable and drastically overcrowded).

But Chinatown here is really neat.  It's a real community, unlike most US Chinatowns which seem to basically be tourist traps.  Since we're here right after Chinese New Year there are all these little booths all over the place (literally completely blocking off a lot of the shops/restaurants).  I guess because we're whiteys the hawkers leave us alone completely, and among such crowds I am quite literally a giant among men. :)

We'll be going back tonight to a Shanghai-style place, which is a type of Chinese food I've never had.

Also, China hasn't gotten the memo yet that smoking = bad.  I actually saw a number of people (mostly old men) smoking two cigarettes at once. :hmm:

Place was great.  We shared orders of xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings), orange peel chicken, lion head meatballs, and pumpkin mochi for dessert.  Complimentary tea and peanuts.  Only chopsticks were offered so I had to teach Princesca how to eat rice with them.  She picked it up very quickly.

Now, now, a Languish Know-it-all knows more than you do. Say "thank you Fatmai".

Had what I thought was a neat experience today (though Princesca didn't seem to think it was any big deal).  We took a bus across the city to Golden Gate Park and the route we were on passed through Chinatown.  Driver was a very kind and helpful (he gave us directions to where we needed to go) older black gentleman.  As we went through Chinatown and passengers would get off most of them would say "thank you" to him and he'd say something in response I couldn't understand at first, but then I realized he was saying "xie xie" to them all. :)

Before you said it was a black gentleman, I was picturing:

No, but I did see some shady looking individuals.  At one point I was riding a cable car back down to the wharf and I saw a Chinese guy walk up to a totally unmarked door on a side street, look over his shoulder both ways, unlock it, and dart in. :hmm:

I also saw the hospital Bruce Lee was born in.

Well that was an odd experience.

I got me a Giants jacket, so now I can walk around in Chinatown and be totally inconspicuous.  One the way back I was looking for someplace to eat dinner and I happened to pass a Jack in the Box.  Now, I've been to California many times but this is the first time I've been near one at a meal time and, given the chain's long and storied history on Languish I had no choice but to patronize it.

So I go in and... the place is completely deserted.  I don't mean that there's just no other customers there, but there is LITERALLY nobody in the building at all.  I'm like "uhhhh ok" and wait around for a minute or so, and just as I'm about to leave I hear a noise behind me and turn around.  Apparently there was a homeless guy hiding or sleeping under a table near the door and he's slowly rising up to his feet like a zombie dancer out of the fucking Thriller video.  I'm like "oh shit" and reach for my waistband but remember that I can't carry in this liberal weenie state so I try to think of which kempo works best for beating up homeless people.

As is on cue I hear "Can I help you?" from behind me and I turn around and a guy is there behind the counter, ready to take my order.  I order a Jumbo Jack and when he starts to ask "For here or..." I cut him off and quickly say "To go!"  I guess he saw me looking at the homeless guy because then he says "Oh that's Jesus, he's always here.  He's not any trouble, don't worry."

Then when I went to fill up my drink, I happened to look over my shoulder and... Jesus was gone!

I think something supernatural happened at Jack in the Box tonight but I'm not sure what. :hmm:

Does anyone out there have the pics from the '04 Vegas KAPapalooza trip where we visited JIB just to flash "FU Jaron" signs?

As I think about it, Tricky Dick is the only Languishite still with us who was there... :(

If it's any consolation, Siege has posted a number of "FU Jaron" pics.

Had Burmese food for the first time today at a place here... met up with a friend from high school who lives in Palo Alto now.  The food was good.  We had a tea leaf salad with nuts and sesame seeds and some kind of vinegary-soy dressing, and then a bowl of soup with beans, lentils, and busted up samosas in it.

I think I like Indian better but Burmese is definitely worth trying.

Saw a bunch of weirdos riding bikes around in the nude today (looked like it was some kind of club).  Some of the chicks had nice tits.

Most of the bicyclists were old men with beards.  :)

So that's double yuck.

Apparently you can tell when you're going to die, it's your old man beard exactly resembles your pubic hair arrangement.

Oh, I'm with you know.   :D

But I don't think that would follow, from the women I used to know horses are far more likely to fit the bill, motion-wise.

Maybe you could survey (get slapped by) women on bikes?  :)
