Question:
Choose a rapid death penalty or life in prison
Option 1: Death. Tomorrow at dawn.
votes: 9
Option 2: Life in jail as a slave of the state, Number Six.
votes: 13
Option 3: Hikikomori is the way to go. I am stored away by choice.
votes: 0
The phrase "At least he didn't get the death penalty" has always been a little baffling to me. It only makes sense in the context of a long, drawn out mess of years spent as a prisoner waiting to die. But if the alternative is immediate execution, I would far rather have that. Is life really worth having if you spend it as a slave sitting in storage with no ability to do anything?
Life imprisonment is utterly immoral.
Dude, I spend my life sitting in storage waiting to die. It's not so bad. Being dead though, there's no take backs when you are dead.

So then the state should also execute you?
Depends if I get cable.
Depends. A civilized jail or Machiavellian pound-you-in-the-ass gaol?

Yeah, I mean, life in Danish prison is 16 years with cable and a cell for yourself. But life in an American prison, shoot me.
Slave, probably. Maybe nice agricultural work in the Roman Empire in Corsica or Sardinia.

Sorry. You go to the mines. Next!
Five death votes, no life imprisonment votes.
But when I bring it up, I'm a real monster.
Forgot to vote. Also a prisoner is not a slave, they can't be forced to do work.

Wait, why are you a monster?
Well, on second thought, I think it was just Beeb or somebody getting on my case. You know, one of those jokers who "values human life."
That's ridiculous. I can't believe that a guy whose job it is to send people to jail could possibly see any value in human life. Otherwise, how could he do something so antisocial?
Life. I'm assuming in a prison system that doesn't have mass rape. I could get a lot of reading done.
Yeah, constant rape can cut into reading time.
Plenty of time to read when you're dead.

That's a Catholic tradition I'm unfamiliar with.
I always thought mass was a very American tradition.

Well, at least prison guards get fired rather than relocted if they get caught raping the inmates under their care.

It's because I value human life that I think those who harm human life must go to gaol in response to their actions.
Vengeance is a rather pagan ethos.

It has nothing to do with vengeance. Rather, I believe in the healing powers of gaol. -_-
Canadian gaol must be a lot different than American gaol.

I dunno though. Being institutionalized just damages people. Even if it's a golden cage.

So if someone, say, robs a liquor store at gunpoint, what should we do with that person? Since putting them in gaol just damages them.
1. Establish a negative income tax so that no one need rob a liquor store to secure the rudiments of existence.
2. Execute anyone robbing a liquor store.
P.S.: If society can't afford to do 1, it obviously can't afford to gaol them, so proceed to step 2 anyway.

Transportation.
Transportation is actually a good option, if available.
Palanquins would have to come back in style.

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply hang them by the neck in response to their actions?
Before I can evaluate the DP option I need to know what the guys look like.

Am I the only person who didn't initially think death penalty when the acronym DP was used?

At this point, most of us would rather fantasize about our own deaths than crack lewd jokes, I'm afraid.
