From the wiki article about Agnetha Faltskog, one of the singers from ABBA:
Quote
Stalking victim Former Dutch citizen Gert Van Der Graaf claims he had fallen in love with Fältskog at the age of 6, in 1974, when he saw ABBA performing "Waterloo" on Dutch TV. Since that day, Van Der Graaf was obsessed with Fältskog. As an adult, he started to make trips to Sweden and found the area where Fältskog lived. In 1997, he moved from Holland to Sweden, determined to get in contact with Fältskog. He managed to buy a small house near Fältskog's estate and also found a job in the area. Soon, he began to approach Fältskog during her walks in her neighborhood. Fältskog soon began a sexual relationship with him and he was invited to visit her home, and eventually to co-habit with her.
After about two years, Fältskog wanted to end the relationship and told Van Der Graaf. After the relationship terminated, he began to send Fältskog many letters, called her relentlessly, and visited her estate frequently without invitation. Eventually, Fältskog obtained a restraining order against Van Der Graaf. He broke the order several times and was eventually deported back to Holland. In 2005, the deportation order from Sweden ran out, and within months Van Der Graaf was again sighted near Fältskog's estate in Ekerö. [5]
Van Der Graaf claims that Fältskog seduced him and that he "did not mean to stalk her" but claimed he was still in love with her and "couldn't let go." [6 Since the deportation, Fältskog has not reported any further contact from Van Der Graaf. However, as recently as 2007, Van Der Graaf was spotted at a play at which Fältskog was in attendance. When asked, Fältskog stated that she did not know Van Der Graaf had been there and that he did not approach her.
That has to be the most successful celebrity stalker EVER.

SHOCKING!
I don't see why this is generating such interest. After all, an attraction like that is perfectly natural; sometimes the sparks just fly.
Though the antics of some stalkers are enough to make your hair stand on end.

QuoteOverweight Dutch forklift truck driver Gert van der Graaf was an Abba fan who had pursued her for two years. She complained to the police, but in 1997 they started a romantic relationship. 'It was a very intense attention from him and after a while I felt I could not resist any more. I wanted to know him,' Agnetha said. Two years later, they had split up and by 2000 Agnetha was seeking an exclusion order.
After the disaster of her dalliance with Gert, she moved deeper into the forest, building a smaller house around a private courtyard garden. Neighbours say she barely exchanges greetings with them.

Proof positive, kids, that perseverance and dedication pays off!
She was gorgeous too--I wish I knew stalking her worked before she turned 50.

Lucky bastard. <_<
I suppose women fall for stalking because it somewhat fits into being dominated? Or they enjoy the puppydog attention and thus feel like they are the dominant?
So he had sex with someone old enough to be his mom? That's uh great.

Well someone needs to balance grallon out.
I think there are many, many different ways of "stalking". The word is often associated with the annoying, intrusive, hostile kind. But in this case, the man probably approached her in a mature, friendly and polite manner. Some people just assume it is the former kind just because the guy who writes the article chooses to use the word "obsessed".

:yeahright:
I just came across a book that had details about Gert. He is a bizarre man. But then, perhaps you are in the habit of purchasing homes simply so that you will have a chance of meeting a person you are "obsessed" with.

He moved to another country, and bought a house in her neighborhood just so he could approach her in that "mature, polite manner". If that isn't an obsession, I don't know what is.
But the point is, in her mind, he probably didn't "stalk" her in the usual sense of the word. Just because he bought a house in the neighbourhood doesn't mean he followed her 24/7.

I wouldn't say really "stalking", but rather an erotomaniac fantasy.
Moving all the way to another country to move in her neighborhood on purpose, just to bump in her "in a random way", is definely a bit too much. Maybe not in China, but here it is definitely odd. Sure, it isn't the same as writing thousands of letters per month to someone or sending her a dead bunny, but it is still symptomatic of an obsessive behavior, because had Agnetha Fältskog been a total unknown he wouldn't have had the same behavior.
However, this time he succeeded in seducing the target of his fantasies, so it remained an quirky story to tell, especially knowing that Fältskog lived a recluse lifestyle since the mid-80s. She was probably flattered at his attention and his dedication, if the guy was nice and acted "mature" with her. What I wonder is, what would have happened if Agnetha had ultimately refused his advances? I think her welfare would have been threatened there, especially when the scorned guy lives nearby.

Stalking must be 24/7?
Anyway here's what Mr. Gert was up to after the relationship ended.
Quote"He'd call me up to three times a day and he followed me whereve I went," she told the plice. "Sometimes he's followed my car, other times he's been waiting in places where I take my walks. My life has been extremely restricted because of this and I no longer dare go outside without having my neighbour with me."
"From the end of the relationship until he was arrested by the police, Gert wrote Agnetha 86 letters. He started rummaging through her mailbox and phoned her constantly. When he suddently appeared outside her kitchen window on Christmas Eve, she reported him to the police."
