QuoteINCIDENT: Aggravated Batteries
OCCURRED: August 20, 2013 at 8:25 PM and at 10:00 PM
LOCATION: 400 Block of E. John St. / 300 Block of S. First St., Champaign
BRIEF DETAILS:
The Champaign Police Department is currently investigating two cases of aggravated battery that occurred in the University of Illinois campus area, on August 20, 2013.
The first incident occurred at 8:25 PM, in the 400 block of E. John Street. A 20-year-old female reported walking in the crosswalk, on the east side of Fourth Street, and crossing John Street when she was struck by a blow dart in the left forearm. She received treatment for her injury at a local hospital.
The second incident occurred at 10:00 PM, in the 300 Block of S. First Street. A 35-yearold male reported to police that he was struck by a blow dart in the left forearm. He reported walking eastbound on the north side of Springfield Avenue and crossing First Street when he was injured. The victim reported immediately pulling the dart out of his arm and seeking medical treatment at a local Hospital.
We are the same town where last summer some guys were walking around the main business strip on campus, randomly walking up to guys and punching them in the face. That's it. They'd walk up, punch a guy in the face, and then walk off.
And who can forget The Enema Bandit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_H._Kenyon)?
I really need to get the hell out of here..... :glare:
The dart from the first attack:

There's a movie about him. Cinema Snob did a good review of that one.
Both on the left forearm.
BTW, she needs a manicure.
Yeah, the guess is that that was random luck. And really lucky, too, because one of those things to the face or neck could kill someone.
Good there are no poison arrow frogs in Champaign.
We are a research campus. There are no guarantees that there aren't.

They have some in Vienna Zoo. They're sponsored by Pfizer.
So who do they have there shooting darts, Amazonian hunters with blow guns?? Those hunters are pretty good with those things!

I don't know. I would rather be in a city with blowguns and walk by punchings than most of the alternatives.

Yeah, I was under the impression they took considerable skill to wield effectively.
:hmm:
The next ones will be on Washington, not John.
This is the same town that had a toilet webcam at a place called Fat Sandwich, done trying to figure it out.

Hey, you up for getting together for a few games this fall? I've been seriously missing watching football, which hasn't happened in a long while.
BWW on North Prospect of a Sunday afternoon, perhaps? :)
Definitely, you and max can help me teach the gf football. :P

I may go to the season opener in Chi-town. Haven't been to Soldier Field yet.

One of the top things on my Bucket List is to go to a pro football game. I've covered high school, community college, university, and Arena Football games. I've been in the Bears locker room after a practice once (and no, the players don't care if women reporters are in there when they shower and dress) to interview a couple of the guys, but never been to a game. :(
As a frame of reference, a bus ticket from O'Hare to Champaign/Urbana is ~$30.
QuoteAn 18-year-old U. of I. student from China reported at 11 a.m. Tuesday that a man who had given him a ride to campus from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago had significantly overcharged him. The student told police that a man at the airport had convinced him to skip his charter bus ride by offering to drive him to Urbana for $1,000. The student paid the money, but the driver demanded another $3,800 when they arrived in Urbana. The student only had $4,200 in cash and said he paid the man out of fear of losing his luggage. The student said he also left his phone, valued at $650, inside the vehicle. The student provided a description of the man and the vehicle to U. of I. Police and officers have contacted the Chicago Police Department as part of their theft investigation.
Also, apparently there were six armed robberies on campus last night, one right after the other. Three with guns, three with.. something else.

What does he know? He's a complete stranger to this part of the world, and our money is probably a lot like Monopoly money.
Generally wise to know something about potential prices before traveling somewhere.

Dumb people get greedy. A $1000 for a ride is obviously preposterous, but contract = contract.

He still knows that this one ride is costing him around a fifth of his entire grub stake.
