If this is not classified information, as many in the Trump administration have said, then release it to the public.

So the qualifiers are off. Again.
After a reasonably solid 5-0 win against Moldova, Norway faced Israel last night. Away. Another win, not an amazingly convincing game, but Norway finally seems to have a team, rather than just an Ødegaard and Haaland.

I am, however, so disconnected from the world of football that I am not even sure which tournament we are qualifying for.

Images of a guy in dervish gear being tear gassed went around the world. Something weirdly dystopian or post-apocalyptic about the whole get up.

On that note, and maybe I'm biased, but this seems so much worse than the whole "but her emails!" affair.

Yes, but you see this time it's different. Because it's Republicans. Their missteps somehow never seem to incur the outcry or pushback that happen when Democrats do less egregious things. Imagine if Biden or Obama had hosted a sales event for [insert vendor of choice] on the White House lawn and then receved $100M for their coffers. Republicans were crying streams of crocodile tears over Obama's much less problematic post-presidency Netflix deal.

The response after this became public was rather typical. Fake news. Erm. No. Bad journalist. No credibility.

Friedrich's voice reminds of one I have heard in a cartoon my daughter used to watch. Not sure it's a good thing :D

Quote from: Syt on March 25, 2025, 03:50:00 PMLikewise, Augustus' Latin may be accurate-ish, but some of it sounds very Italian to this lay-person.)

That's terrible. My mind cannot buy that Augustus would have had such a modern Italian accent. That said, his accent is still eons better than Lafayette's. I have the feeling that a mid 18th century French noble speaking Latin would have had a better pronunciation.

And yeah, I still play on difficulty 3 or 4 (out of 6). It's become a bit of a chillout game for me, so I like to play it casually - though that may be damning the game with faint praise. :D

I was playing as Macchiavelli last weekend on diff. 4. I was constantly lagging behind other nations in tech or culture, or # of cities but made up for it in trade and managing to stay out of wars the entire game (except one at the start where my opponent was so far away we never even fought).

In modern age as America, though, it was a bit ridiculous. I was focusing on trade. With the Lend Lease tradition you get 25g and 5 influence per trade route, and I had 15 trade routes most of the time, somtimes more, sometimes less. Also, as Macchiavelli you get 50g per age (i.e. 150 in Modern) every time you do a diplomatic endeavor, or double that if they refuse. So I used my influence to open more trade routes, asking for open borders (knowing some would reject), etc. and was constantly raking in cash hand over fist while also quickly racking up Economic Victory points with all those imported goods. And while some nations fought their version of The Great War, I quietly went and founded the World Bank to win while being only #3 power overall.
