Hey we can't all be Switzerland

Like passing referendum proposals banning minarets, and requiring recognition of "alternative medicine"

Let's keep it that way.

Another personal favourite is that the last cantons only granted women the right to vote in the 1990s.

The electoral college is idiotic. It has so many problems and screwed up incentives it is indefensible.

It was a way of electing Presidents back when it took weeks to get from here to there, and the fastest means of communication was no faster than the means of travel.

It makes no damn sense anymore, and should be scrapped. The people who set it up created a system that would allow it to be scrapped, but we are too damn stupid to use it to make something better, because our two party system is too damn afraid that any change might threaten their stranglehold on the system (back to screwed up incentives).

What were they thinking??

And yet, we've already had a female president.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'd interpret that as an anti trump statement--though also one to save his own skin with the base. So much of the reason I hear to vote for Trump (from otherwise lukewarm GOPers) is to keep Hillary from making supreme court picks, while the counterargument is, "we can do that through a gop senate". That ties in so well to the counterargument.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Yeah we have so many things like this that just scream for reform. Big and small. Things with simple solutions. Yet it seems impossible to do any of them.

The Minsky Moment

Why doesn't the Clinton campaign just go ahead and pre-emptively release all of Podesta's emails?

So far it hasn't been that damaging, but the daily WikiLeaks drip-drip keeps the subject of "Clinton+emails" in the news.
Just release them all and take the wind out of Assange's sails.

The Minsky Moment

By the way the complete lack of editing and the release of PII (SS numbers etc ) and highly personal comms between Podesta and his wife/kids proves yet again Assange is the scum of the earth and anyone who deals with him is a best a monumentally naïve fool, and more likely something much worse than that.

Not just his own skin, but to try to salvage all the down-ballot races.  It's basically saying Hillary won't be as bad as the Apricot Man-child bloviates because we'll keep her in check.

The problem for Clinton in this context is not the word emails, it's embarrassing shit like "two kinds of truth" and being pre-fed debate questions.
