Doesn't matter. Hillary's in more or less the same boat.

Eh, the Democratic field is already a geriatric ward.

Apart from that, in the last election, we went through a flurry of joke candidates as well, all of whom at some point "surged" to the top.  Eventually people realized that the jokes are jokes, and that your presidential candidate has to be presidential.

Don't know how you figure that to be the case.  Seems to me that the last 4 guys to win the office were jokes.

A VP, Two State Governors, and a Senator?

One of the retired dudes at the Regal Beagle told me he's backing Trump.  Real nice guy, HS graduate, doesn't seem to follow news much.  I doubt he has ever caucused, not sure if he votes.  He's bought the "saying things others are afraid to" line.

I told him he wasn't allowed to vote for Trump.

I don't think that's gonna convince him.

Well, it may very well be true.  Unless Trump gets the nomination or runs as a third party he won't be allowed to vote for Trump in Iowa.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Could do a write in vote.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I'm guessing the friend would be voting in the primary.  No problems there.

There is no primary in Iowa.

Iowa is a caucus state which means everyone meets together in a public building a chooses a delegate by arm wrestling.

I think anyone can vote in the Iowa caucus, as long as they catch the campaign buses in Minneapolis or Chicago.
