I feel like I want to vomit.  :yucky:

Because you agree with the op-ed piece or because you disagree with it.
Agree
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Maybe time to go full circle.  I find the Modern Whig party (they're definitely a very fringe group, but at least not a loony fringe group  :P ) to be far more appealing than the GOP these days.  Democrats are too establishment, and Libertarians/Socialists are too full of themselves.

The name is problem though...to most, "Whig" will either be a hairpiece or a nasty insect.

Tim, can you explain how feeling like you want to vomit differs from simply wanting to vomit?

Also, I can understand how reading something extremely unpleasant can make you vomit, or make you feel like you might vomit, but to make you want to vomit? If you want to vomit, just put your finger down your throat and vomit. No need to fuck about by writing that you want to vomit.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I've never been able to do that.

The CBC is reporting that Trump is the most popular choice amongst Republicans.  So much for being a lunatic fringe candidate.  Seems more like the lunatic fringe party.

A party that has a majority in both legislative houses and somewhere around half the governorships doesn't seem to be very fringe.

Not in the US sad to say that is true.

Lets not go crazy. In a field of 16 candidates a guy with 18% in the polls and well over twice that in negatives is almost certainly not going to get the nomination. Which is what the prediction markets say.

Also, I don't think conservative xenophobic populism can really be described as a fringe movement even outside the US. It seems to have quite a following in a lot of countries.

So that governor of Ohio...do you (cruise/stand/something that rhymes with Kasich) with him Spicey?

I like him, but my take is that he is gunning for VP.  He could be a relatively moderate counterbalance to a conservative Prez nominee.  I don't think he'll make it even into the top 5 candidates, but if somehow he does get up there and he's the best of the group I could see myself shifting my support to him.  Just having trouble with catchphrases.  I think it would have to be "Back to basics with Kasich" or something involving LASIK surgery.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Anyway grabon, not basic but basics, as in your traditional basics of the GOP.  Kasich is a 90s-style Republican, but I can see how someone of your young age would miss that :P

The false pretenders that claim Trump and Bush as their champions will soon fall to Kasich's superior candidacy.  :pope:  (Yes, I was rooting for Huntsman in 2012, what of it?)
