Started a game as Duke of Austria in CK-DV. The County of Vas split from Hungary and I convinced them to become a vassal.

In 1076 the Duke of Meissen (our ally) asks for help against Lausitz. As Duke Leopold's son has a claim on that province we gladly join. Disaster ensues. The Austrian army of 3000 routs 300 Lausitz troops, but Leopold manages to have himself taken prisoner. Although we pay the ransom, he dies and his eight year old son Viktor takes over. Meanwhile, Meissen marches in with 500 troops to aid my 3000 in sieging Lausitz, stealing the siege and the province (the Count of Lausitz was vassal of ours for all of, oh, a week before being annexed. So it's now 1078, my ruler is eight years old, has -80 prestige and -500 gold. :bleeding:

Thinking seriously about buying one of those new sleeker PS3's as I have a huge selection of blu-rays at my disposal at work, and I've been gaming more on the PS2 and would like to try some newer games. Only 299 CAD and taxes. seems fairly reasonable considering what you can do with it. But first I'm getting a new extended zoom point and shoot camera.

Keep in mind that it seems the PS3 slim is -not- backwards compatible with PS2 games.

I've been playing Civ4:BTS again. Started a few games on Prince and Monarch, did ok in some, and got way behind in others. Current game as the Incas, on a very large, sprawling and spread out landmass. The Carthaginians started at one end but early on I knocked them off, preferring to have a land mass to myself when possible. The Inca starting units, Quecha, are stronger than warrior units and well suited for early battling if needed.

About mid game and I've been going as fast as I can to build on the whole land mass. But still a lot of open area, since the game is geared to penalize too fast colonizing. So I've been focusing on some techs and building to maximize expansion (courthouses as the first item built per city). And focused on grocers and banks techs as I could. So I've been able to keep my research between 50% to 70% much of the time. I think that I have probably more than my share of wonders built, so that's good to have.

I've now met many neighbors. I share a three way tie for second place, as three of us are about the same in points. My research is probably ahead of most though, which is good since one of the second placers and his low ranked vassel declared war on me. Right now our units are about even, though I have musketeers. My next tech will give me cavalry which will be nice, as they're a strong unit.

So it's been an interesting game, and a good challenge.  Civ4 is usually a challenge for me though, as I'm probably a mediocre player. I find it hard to advance quickly, but the game is geared that way.

You're running cottages aren't you? tsk tsk tsk. Once I switched to specialist economy, there's no turning back my friend. Get the pyramids, run farms instead of cottages and watch you population explode. Convert them to specialists. At 0% on the science slider, you get discoveries every 5 turns for most of the game.

I bought Front Office Football and consider setting up a Languish themed fantasy league (similar to what I had for OOTP).

I mix it up. For the most part, I do build farms on every square that allows farms, rarely using those for cottages/workshops/other.  I build some cottages for the income, usually on plains terrain and later build some workshops on green terrain. I leave some forest for lumber mills for more production/hammers later. I also try to found cities near one or two hills/mountains for mines/production. Other towns I build in heavy farm areas, near rivers and seafood, intending large pops but less production.

I never really tried a specialist economy, but you reminded me about it. What do you do for production, since you also need buildings, wonders, military?

Team Fortress 2. My inner pyromaniac is enjoying it.

Finally got somebody pissed off. Playing King of the Hill, and I gun down 4 people. So I hit the taunt button, being super low on health and not really giving a shit. Teammate tells me via mic that I need to take the objective.

So I proceed to follow him on the map, and press the taunt button near him, with a variety of classes. He explodes into profanity on the mic and gets kicked.

I'm awesome.
