The next Star Trek MMORPG: Another Epic Fail?

So far I think I might play this after it goes live, but not immediately (not going to pre-order).  I'll probably wait a few weeks and see how they've polished it up first. 

Also, how do the fleets work??  I was doing a patrol mission, and when I arrived at the last system, for a mission that really didn't even require me to be there ("escort" a freighter a few kilometers to a mining base with no badguys or anything), I suddenly got spammed with all sorts of error messages as three people showed up in the system and were suddenly thrown in a little fleet together with me.  All they were doing was zooming around while this freighter followed me to the little base, then the mission was over.   

Is there any way to avoid that in the future?  I know it's an MMO and all, but I really didn't need a fleet/buddies for a quick little mission like that.

You have to set up team setting under the social button.
The default is set to open team so you'll be added automatically to a team on missions like that.

Hey CC, Beeb and all they just brought down the server for maintence at 6:45 PST, expecting no more than two hours, so kinda like last night.

But it was needing it as there was some funky lag this afternoon.

Looks like I might have a corrupt file - but unfortunately the fix appears to be deleting all 10G worth of files and letting it re-download, since their file check code is broken and doesn't appear to actually find problems, just takes a long time looking for them.

So instead of playing STO, I went to the bar with a bunch of jail guards.   

No, really.  Going away party for one of them (she house sat for us a couple years ago too).

But I came back for 8:45 (plus jail guards are boring company, in particular when you have to work tomorrow and they don't so are getting loaded), only to find the game STILL isn't up.
