Trying to help out my uncle, found a shit-kicker artist that's not on iTunes, wants to download a few tunes.  Where can I go that isn't laced with p2p malware?

Check out last.fm - they usually have multiple buy links for the artists.

Does he want to pay for those tunes or not?

I didn't even mention Amazon as I figured you'd already tried that. :o

Amazon is ok, but I don't like their odd policy on re-downloading your purchases.

Over here both play.com and 7digital.com seem to have much better long term support; with 7digital I found two old redundant accounts and the files were still available for download years later and what's more they were higher bit-rate modern versions of the albums.

I dont think Amazon has any policy against re downloading. Not anymore?

As well as being more expensive over here for the exact same download this is there policy here:

Can I download another copy of my MP3 files after the initial purchase?

Your Amazon MP3 purchases can only be downloaded once. After you have successfully downloaded the file to your computer at the time of purchase, we recommend that you create a backup copy.
We are currently unable to replace any purchased files that you delete or lose due to a system or disk error. If you encounter a problem with an MP3 file immediately after purchase, please click the Contact Us button in the right-hand column of this page so we can determine how to help you

Well that's not the policy here in the US.  Every digital purchase gets sent to one's Amazon Cloud space and then you can download your purchases as many time as you want.

Also until Apple decided to go DRM-free and allowing record labels to choose the price per mp3, Amazon typically had cheaper songs here.

Yeah.  You should consider moving to a more enlightened nation.  Or at least one that doesn't suck.
