I have very strong feelings about teaching Huckleberry Finn using the n-word.  Those feelings change all the time as I hear more people argue about it, but don't get less strong.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

An octopus has started the process of domesticating fish. Soon he'll be walking them around and collecting their poop, just like any advanced species :D

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

I'm recently 'enjoying' this young cockney(ish) guy's videos. He's broadly on my wavelength with regards to the problems in the world and he has a good presentation style to appeal to those who need to compute this stuff.

The last time US-Canada relations were at a similarly low point was in 1997. :P

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Not sure if this is even satire anymore.  :hmm:

Keanu Reeves is turning into a gentle grizzled Reverend, and I'm not hating it. :D

Is it me or have they tried to give Napoleon his Corsican accent in Civ7? :hmm:

Esp. when you compare with Lafayette:

Don't know about Corsican, but Napy VII definitely has an Italian accent.

(And I can't say I like Lafayette dialogues, his acting sounds forced)

As someone not fluent in French, I didn't notice. But it is notable with Frederick and his German. :D (Charlemagne speaks something close to Old Frankish/Germanic, I think, and it also sounds a bit "acted." :P Likewise, Augustus' Latin may be accurate-ish, but some of it sounds very Italian to this lay-person.)

Friedrich's voice reminds of one I have heard in a cartoon my daughter used to watch. Not sure it's a good thing :D

That's terrible. My mind cannot buy that Augustus would have had such a modern Italian accent. That said, his accent is still eons better than Lafayette's. I have the feeling that a mid 18th century French noble speaking Latin would have had a better pronunciation.

Was old German really so very brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr soundy?

I do guess they're purposefully going for cartoonish.

How Germanic is English.

Fun factoids.  No Germanic language has a future tense.  English is the only Germanic language without gender.

His explanation made me wonder why all speakers of languages *with* gender don't vote to abolish it.  It serves zero purpose.
