It's getting more difficult to just make a new character.  Fifty years of comic books have really used up a lot of the cool superhero names, and nobody wants to get sued.

Not to mention, if there is a more accurate pop culture metaphor for a closeted homo than a superhero ("lead a dull pretend life, often with a faux-girlfriend, during day and come out to be his secret-identity himself while wearing spandex at night") I'm yet to see it. Surprised any of them is straight.

I always thought that Green Lantern was kinda of crap hero anyway.  His weakness is the color yellow?  Pfft.
