How does one play keno?

You pick 20 numbers between 1 and 80, the house picks 20 numbers (electronically or mechanically), the number of matches determines payout.  Pay schedules vary.

Kinda like the sort of lotteries that let you pick numbers then?
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Yes, except that the payouts are typically much lower and the games are played much faster (Maryland Keno draws every 4 minutes).
