 I suspect the point he was making is that perhaps now resources can be put toward the Star Trek shows that are higher quality?

exactly.

luckily there's no law that says we need to watch everything when being fan of something. We're allowed to skip the rubbish.
With the understanding that tastes are individual.
And with the understanding that for this show the viewing number were crap. (like the product  :D  :P )
