The idea is you'll download the simulator and then pay for things like scenery and planes in micro-installments.

My buddy is a hard core flight sim guy and makes his money making DLC planes for flight sim.

EDIT: or rather he makes a bit of money making one plane on the side: http://www.baytower.ca/

So, how does this work?  Taking off is free, but you have to pay to land?

Sounds like RyanAir's business model. :(

I always knew Bill Gates was secretly an Islamist terror-sympathizer.. or should I say, MULLAH WILLIAM SHABAZZ MALIK AL-GATES?

I'm already a bit bored with just the island of Hawaii to fly around over.  In FSX I used to like to fly from Kentucky to Florida when it was winter, and from Kentucky to the Smokies when it was summer. :)  I hope they release continental US scenery soon.

So Flight turned out to be a total fiasco.  Anyway, I bought X-Plane 10 and just got it in the mail.

Why was Flight a fiasco and is X-Plane 10 awesome?

Flight is great if you like flying around on the big island of Hawaii and nowhere else except Alaska (for which you pay like $30).

I don't know if X-Plane is awesome yet, since I just installed it last night and have yet to configure my flight stick, etc.  I did fly around the Louisville area a bit and can tell you that it has the local road network and topography pretty much exactly correct.... flying in and out of SDF looks 'right' so far as that is concerned.  It's also a lot faster/better framerate and the graphics are a generation better.  One thing that's lacking right now across the product is airport-level detail... the runways and taxiways at SDF are accurate, but there are no buildings at all.  I haven't looked for add-on scenery yet but it wouldn't surprise me if someone has corrected it.

Also, my ancient Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick is compatible with it, including the throttle lever and twist yaw control.

I took off from SDF and navigated to my house strictly by using the road network... it had basically every road along the way, including even my subdivision.  Impressive. :showoff:
