Yet Secretary Timothy Geithner and his auto task force, led by Steven Rattner, have somehow decided that Treasury and UAW chief Ron Gettelfinger

Hmmmm, I've always been suspicious  of this guy. Name is too close to "Littlefinger" of the George Martin Ice and Fire book series.   <_<

Sadly I do think that GM has been run so badly for so long that yes the government could run it better.

heh. that's not the point. the point is that government (and public) absorbs losses while they restructure and rebuild, then sell back to more or less to the same clowns at a super discount deal once the market changes. I doubt it's gonna be long term.

this has happened in Canada's forestry industry for years. single town industries with mills "too big to fail", huge public investment and again,  multinational ownership, not nationalisation, at the end of the day.

Are we going to now have cars... named after goverment officials and politicians?

I have a question, based on admittedly limited knowledge of bankruptcy.

Technically, unsecured creditors aren't guaranteed anything, right?

Heh. Since TARP is essentially a subsidy to the financial industry at the expense of the American Taxpayer, that may not be the best example to bring up here.
The difference being if the financial industry disappears we all go to eating bark and wearing leaves.  If GM disappears there's a bunch of unemployed people union workers and we drive Toyotas instead.

Fixed that for you.

Yes - unless they are a union, of course.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

The Chevy Biden, I like that car name.  :D

It will have an onboard navigation system as many cars do, but this one will occasionally blurt out off the wall comments.    ;)

I'm not averse to stabilizing the banks using hundreds of billions of dollars. I just think that Obama's plan is terrible and basically a subsidy to investors themselves, since the government bears almost all of the risk. Whereas here, the government is getting a massive stake in GM.

Without reading more, the GM deal seems pretty fishy.

Occasionally?  More like 90% of the time.

The navigation on the AMC Dean will shout out the state name as it gives directions.

Lol... So I guess that it's lucky timing for Pres Bush that this didn't happen when he was in office.

Kenwood is by far and away the wealthiest neighborhood on the South Side.  My street growing up had three multi-million dollar Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

Besides, why would I be offended by "Turkey Rocks"?  I'm learning Turkish and will probably end up studying Turkish-Russian relations in some capacity.

Even if you make a wrong turn the Bush Car nav system always tells you to stay the course.
