So I home machine took a major dump

which is why I was away for so many weeks.  Figured I'd take my time and start building the machine I want, and start detoxing off Warcraft and internet porn.

I was thinking about one of the "bundles" base packages from newegg.com.  Anybody have any experience with them?  I'm thinking starting with an i7 package over AMD.

It's been a while since I built a desktop, but I really liked the bundles.  The hell with mucking around with a CPU and heatsink and whatnot.

Yeah, I'm liking the whole bundle concept;  they're making the baseline decisions for you, so you don't have to worry about power supply issues, boards and heatsinks, etc., and just let you deal with going as nutty with the vidcards, drives, etc. as much as you want.

I bought and assembled an AMD bundle from TigerDirect about two months ago and it was the easiest damn assembly I've ever done. First time go on everything and the only extra piece I had to buy was an upgraded video card.

i5 bundles should be good enough, but I'd go i7 for future-proofing purposes.

Money, I built a PC for my former boss and used a bundle from NewEgg.  Turned out fine and he loves the PC.

Yeah, that's my thinking as well.  Doesn't mean I have to go whole hog with the rest of the peripherals at the moment as well;  just something I can grow into for next few years.
