Record-breaking highs in Portland this week. Supposed to hit 109f by Thursday.

I'm amused at the fear and hysteria.

It's only hot for like three hours, tops, and the lack of humidity puts the "feels like" temp several degrees lower. I sat outside on the patio for lunch, and it was a lovely 85f (feels like 83f). While the high will be 100f today, the low is expected to be 65f. The "high" lasts about two hours starting at around 4pm. It'll drop down below 70 for most of the night.

Trying to explain that a "high" of 100f back home feels like 110f typically, and doesn't relent for a week or more (yes, even at night) is too confusing for the natives here. "But.. why do people live there??" Yes... exactly...

You saw what I call my winter/English look. When I get summer sun, my skin gets a fair bit darker.

I also do, indeed, use sunblock.
