The Presidents of Slovakia, Romania and Serbia will not come to a summit in Poland (associated with Obama's visit this week) because Poland invited the leader of Kosovo (which is recognized by Poland, among others).

Wut?

I can get Serbia, but why are Slovakia and Romania upset over Kosovo?

Slargos

It COULD have a little something to do with their respective ethnic minorities. IDK.

I imagine that countries that are troubled by separatist movements may be upset.  You fight so hard against your own separatist movement, and now you are going to meet the head of a successful separatist movement of another country?  Something is wrong with that picture.

Slargos

But hey, there are no stupid questions, right?

Just stupid polacks.  :hmm:

Slovakia's so small how many ethnic minorities can they have?
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Size isn't necessarily related to ethnic diversity.  A country can be small, yet ethnically diverse.  China has a huge population, yet the ethnic make-up is relatively homogeneous.

QuoteThe Slovak Republic consists of about 85% ethnic Slovaks, who are a Slavic peoples. A significant portion of the population, about one tenth, is ethnic Hungarian, who are descended from Finno-Ugric and Turkish tribes. This population is mainly concentrated on the border with Hungary, especially in the South West. Other minorities, such as Czechs, Romanies (Gypsy is the derogative term), Ruthenians, Germans, Ukrainians, Poles and Jews also have smaller representations throughout the land and comprise the last 5% of the total population.

Quite a few, apparently.

Apparently, the Russian population is increasing there as well.

Ignorant ahole :P There is a more-or-less solid block of Hungarians all along the Slovakian side of the border :P

Their nationalists  fearmonger via Hungarian plans to force-secede those parts.

It is a sign of a lesser nation that you get paranoid about secessionists.

It's nearly impossible to find any country in Europe, and even more to the east of Germany, where there are not significant minorities.

Poland is pretty homogenic. I wonder why.

Serial ethnic cleansings in 1945 :contract: I blame nazis and stalinists.

Iceland, however, has achieved homogeneity in a purely peaceful matter.
