Paint a late 15th century 28mm army.

I tried getting back to building ship models some years back. I'd end up finishing them, noticing something I badly screwed up and then taking them outside and set them on fire.

I love model glue.

What you should do- exercise. Doesn't have to be at a gym.

What I would end up doing in your situation- computer games and tv.
:secret: He's saying you're fat.

:secret: Skinny people need to exercise too.

I'm doing both guitar and cooking. So far, I'm better at the latter.

Guitar and cuisine lessons involve going out though - you need to meet someone to get the lessons from.  Both sound like lovely activities, but don't quite meet the criteria you set out.

Also find out what your sister thinks before you start playing the guitar. :P
I was thinking about buying a silent guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_guitar) and self-teaching to play it. Anyone here owns one?
Cooking lessons could be fun, but the time span would be too short (4-6 weeks course) for a real obsession, plus I'm already overweight, thanks.
@Mongers: gosh no, I'm not 60 yet. Alythough the collectability facet is interesting...  :hmm:
Amateur porn, hmmm, no thanks.

Ape, Brain, Maladict, what's the equipment needed for your hobbies? What's the costs involved? I must say that the miniatures thread in the GHQ is really nice  :mmm:

I hear you, on both counts. Especially when you see the stuff some people can create

Not much for the basics: knife, tweezers, brushes, glue and paint, shouldn't set you back more than 25 euros. Same price for a plastic kit.
I'm working on two kits at the same time, painting one and building the other, so you don't spend hours watching paint dry.
I find it both frustrating (because I keep ruining them) and relaxing. I don't get wired like I do from the pc or tv at night and sleep well instead (must be the fumes).

When I (re)started painting miniature soldiers I went all in and bought a full set of paints from a major manufacturer etc but there is no need to do that just to try it out. Basic equipment is what Mal said, very cheap. There are companies that try to sell you all kinds if expensive special tools but you'll do fine with basic toolbox stuff. I would say EUR 100 to get everything needed to start painting, including a unit of miniatures. The cost depends a bit on how many paints you want to buy, but you don't need many just to start out.

I usually paint my men while listening to music and surfing the internet.

My first model was awful. The second was pretty bad. The third came out OK. So I would say it's pretty rewarding for a newb. Of course, if you have actual talent you will get even quicker results.

Of course, if you ever actually try this I have a ton of tips and shit.

A ton of tips and shit would cost a fortune to transport all that way.  He can probably get that much local tips and shit for much less.

True BUT I will throw in a second ton of tips and shit for half price! :w00t:

Btw, Ped, there's a new painted unit up in the GHQ thread now. Check it out. :)

The purpose is not making my sister angry with the horrible newbie mistakes (well, wait: make my sis angry?  :hmm: :menace:) and still listening to my progress while wearing headphones instead of amplifying it.

I'm still unsure: I've ruled out the cooking lessons, and took out of the attic a box with the started and never finished 1:72 model of a romanic church I'll try to dedicate some time to. I even started a thread about it on the Old Invision Languish in 2008... Rolleyes to me.
But still guitar seems the better choice to me, I'll take some more time to ponder.

Brain, Mal, are there some reference websites for your hobby?
