In light of the recent nerdiness thread by the Larch, and because I'm growing a bit tired of my usual pastimes when I'm out for the night, I'm going to let Languish pick my next hobby/obession for when I'm far from my family, given the following conditions:

- I'm out for the night for work related reasons at least once a week; in the off time (two to three hours before I fall asleep), I usually play computer games or read a good book.
- When I'm out, I live in a room in my sister's apartment, furnished as follows: one big desk, one chair, one couch, one bed, several shelves. (My sis may or may not be there when I'm there); There are no storage or transportation issues, I won't be in a hotel room;
- I tend to an OCD behavior;
- there's a Warhammer shop just round the corner from the apartment;
- there's a nearby cuisine school that will start the next course in a couple of weeks;
- exercising is out of question, I'm too tired to go to the gym;
- it should be a solitary hobby: I know no one in this place, and don't care about meeting someone new, too;
- I need to do something relaxing after the day's tensions.

Choose, and choose wisely. And no, jacking off to porn is not an option.

[Mono]Cuisine lessons seems like the option with the highest monetary return.[/Mono]

How about making amateur porn, with a succession of fine Italian prostitutes? I hear Ruby Rubacuori needs a new job.  ;)

A hobby that could pay for itself!

Not that I play much of it nowadays since I broke something in my finger, but I have found that playing a rock-related instrument gives depth to the initial view on a nerd and his hobbies by others. "I like to play wargames, and practicing on my bass, and jamming with my friends every now and then" may not sound cool on its own but sure gives hint of a more involved life than "wargames, computer games, and sci-fi" :P

I recently tried my hand at ship modelling, which I used to do as a kid.
It's still good fun and quite rewarding. But you can't tell anyone, obviously.

Guitar, by far.  Believe me, you will thank me in the future if you follow this advice.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Seconded.

If you're too tired to go to the gym it means you NEED to go to the gym, and since making the sex is bonafide just as good as going to the gym you can kill two necessities with one slap of the snake.  :hmm:

You're an Italian, so cooking should be a given. :P

Guitar and cuisine lessons involve going out though - you need to meet someone to get the lessons from.  Both sound like lovely activities, but don't quite meet the criteria you set out.

Also find out what your sister thinks before you start playing the guitar. :P

What you should do- exercise. Doesn't have to be at a gym.

What I would end up doing in your situation- computer games and tv.
