Anyways, I dug out my Body Count CDs.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

N.W.A., no contest, even after deducting points for some of Ice Cube's lesser movies.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Once, when I was in the Netherlands, I took the train from Haarlem to Amsterdam.  There was a group of Dutch teenagers in the same car with me; all were trying to look as rebellious and threatening as they could.  One impossibly blonde kid stood up and rapped in Dutch finishing the rap with a "Straight outta Compton," and a hand gesture which I'm sure he thought looked like a gangster sign.  I was moved to tears.

In my opinion Public Enemy is the better group, but I think NWA has a more universal appeal.  Many people, no matter how terminally white and pathetically law-abiding, wish to see themselves as beyond the constraints of society or law; as a mother-fucking ruthless villain.  No one wants to imagine himself as a clown like Flavor or an angry kook like Chuck (in fact, if you're on this site you probably don't even have to imagine)  but somehow that dynamic works better and created a better act.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Well, they were certainly funnier than Ice Cube and MC Ren.
