Does anyone have an idea of how much it costs to mail a simple document from US to UK, with a delivery confirmation?  I was told at UPS that it would be about $60, which struck me as very high, but maybe that's what the rates are.

Well going the other way it would be about $12 for a 100g letter signed for on delivery.

I tried that route, but for some reason it is exceedingly hard to nail down a quote for exactly what I need.

Just go down the post office, they'll sort if out for you.

Honestly you'll be surprised at just how reliable trans atlantic mail delivery is, I should know I've send many thousands of packages without ANY mishaps I'm aware of.

UPS is the business tariff, you pay an extra $50 for the silly uniforms and vans, rather than having to deal with civil servants/public sector workers.

Hmm, sending the envelope across the ocean, and requiring a confirmation of receipt, seems very expensive everywhere from this end.  UPS might actually sound like the best option of the lot.  I kinda wish now that I didn't imply to the UPS guy to get fucked, that makes it so much harder to come back to that very convenient location.

There had to be some parity in international mail rates, sending and receiving between the same two countries should be roughly similar.

That does sound like a good idea.  USPS should be good enough.  I'm just trying to save myself a pointless trip, but then again, I'm wasting too much time online as well, so I might as well do it.
