So, I have been wondering. The mainstream cinema depiction of queer people has evolved considerably over the last couple of decades - from gays depicted as the villains/deviants in movies like "Cruisin'", to victims in "Philadelphia", to humorous sidekicks (the gay equivalent of "magic negro"), to happy all-rounded characters in the recent cinema, one stage has yet been left untouched - revenge fantasy genre. Is it coming soon? Or is this still away? And will Tarantino do it (he did it for women and Jews).

P.S. If you are not interested in the topic, stay out.

They already have gay revenge movies. it's called gay rape porn :contract: :P

Seriously though, what would you consider a gay revenge movie? Like revenege of the nerds, but with gay guys pulling pranks on the jocks?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

This has not already been done?

Not that I can think of, at least in mainstream cinema.

There have been women revenge fantasies (e.g. "Kill Bill"), black revenge fantasies, Mexican revenge fantasies ("Machete"), Jew revenge fantasies ("Inglourious Basterds") but no gay ones imo.

Revenge fantasy is a recognized genre of rather brutal/bloody/grotesque movies where some victims (usually belonging to a "victim class") take bloody revenge on stereotypical tormentors.

See my previous post of examples for such movies.

The problem with a gay revenge fantasy is you run smack into Columbine.

Yeah it is sort of a B-Movie grindhouse type thingy.  Which is why I was surprised one did not already exist.  Certainly it fits the genre.

What do you mean? Are you saying gays are goth?

I didn't know "revenge fantasy" was a genre. You learn something new every day.

Where's the natural setting for a gay revenge fantasy?  A fashion magazine?  A Catholic seminary?  Of course not, it's a high school.  So you have one or more gay highschoolers who get revenge for their alienation and abuse by shooting up their tormenters.  That's Columbine.

There may actually be some gay revenge fantasy movies out there, but I've never seen any - if they aren't out there, it is probably because those likely to make a gay PoV movie are more likely to feed into the "good gay" stereotype (caring human beings 'just like heteros, only with better fashion sense') and to avoid any aspect of the "bad gay"stereotype (perverts, rapists).

In books, the best example of a gay guy kicking ass and taking names is  Leonard in the Hap and Leonard series, particularly in Bad Chili (which would, BTW, make an awesome movie):

In this one, Leonard (a macho Black gay guy living in Texas) gets fired from his job as a bouncer in a strip club for pissing on the head of a customer, then goes into a biker bar and beats the shit out of a guy named Horse Dick for stealing his BF ... all in the first chapter of a book that has easily the most horrible gay-bashing bastards I've read about - nasty revenge is dealt to 'em.

Nah. I would think - a "gay correction therapy" facility ran by some right winger fundies. A bunch of homos were sent to one by their Southern Baptist/Catholic/Mormon parents, and came out scarred. Now, one is a fashion magazine columnist, another a closeted politician, another a psychologist, and another an ex-soldier working for the security industry. They found out a friend of theirs - another kid who went to the facility - has just committed suicide - and they decide to go back and serve some vengeance. Btw, screenplay rights are reserved. :P

Edit: or a Mathew Shepherd style thing, where gay bashers are murdered and/or tortured by a bunch of bloodthirsty queens.

Yeah, that's definitely the reason. We are now at the penultimate stage in gay empowerment: "We are more fun/normal/nice than the heteros" - it's all over movies featuring gay characters now. The next, ultimate step in empowerment will be - we have just as many right to be bitchy assholes, and you have to be afraid to piss us off.  :P

Again, I recommend the Hap and Leonard series - it is hilariously un-giving-a-shit-about-PC about its gay main character. Now *there's* a gay guy you most definitely do not want to piss off.
