Empire? You'd ruin it! quaint and ill-defined union! It would be looser, even, than a confederacy.

So, a series of nation-states with little-to-no connection or influence over one-another's internal governance and each with an independent foreign policy/military?  :hmm:
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

They could all play in the Turanic Games.  There's that excellent sport with the sheep's head for one.

They could have poetry associations, economic partnerships, and a high level of cultural/student exchanges, with easy travel between them.

Secession from France is good for Brittany or the Occitans. To see civilization go into darkness and north africa become a savage place again is a tragedy. And in general, I take a dim view of the decline of French power. France is the South's good friend, and we are kindred spirits. They also are the vanguard of the Celts in continental Europe.
The Vanguard of the Celts in Europe?
The French are not Celts...they've historically been quite the major enemies of the celts actually. Practically wiping out the Bretons, conquering Wales and Ireland, the auld alliance with the lowland Scots.

They are just as much Celts as the Bretons, Welsh, and Irish.  As in they are distantly descended from Celts and lots of other things.

It's good that the North (i.e. Western civilization) had more balls than France and insisted on civilizing the barbaric South even in the face of the civil war. Abolition act, civil rights act (and deploying the national guard to protect it) etc. are all aspects of this.

Ok, lets roll with this. The French were pretty brutal during the Algerian war, how much more brutal should they have been? Should they have mobilized for total war? How much would be too much?

I've been thinking about Turkey a lot-
what an interesting place
after being gripped in a malaise so long, it convulses with nationalist fervor
and the eastern half languishes in a sort of demi-twentieth century while islamic fundamentalism creeps in power
it is a land of tea, cats, and gloominess
I would wish to see it, only, i'd be intruding in their beautiful world
I am a westerner and have no business there

The idea of a quaint and ill-defined turanic union, stretching from Hungary to Japan, appeals to me.

It bothers me that Algeria was lost to France. I feel a great disservice was done to the native Algerians and the pied noirs as well, and that the French people sold out their fellow countrymen because defending them became an unwelcome liability. It is shameful, and I think France would be better had Algeria been integrated with the settlers as the bedrock.

Along with the unhappy way things have developed in South Africa, it serves to make Africa a worse place. I regret that the mission of civilization in  that place, to which I find my thoughts drawn, has been so delayed, disrupted and ruinous to those who attempt it.

A public turanic union?
