Been reading some of the advances on AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire";  getting positive spin over the writing and acting, a la the early seasons of Mad Men.

Fans of the early '80s PC tech wars might want to tune in.

Watched 'Lincoln', not what I expected, but an Excellent film. 

Day Lewis, brilliant, Sally Fields was very believable, did she get an oscar too?


Only minor point of criticism, Spielberg was a little too wedded to the background music welling up, as someone started a profound speech or statement.

I liked the that first part of the film featured people from my town, Jefferson City.  My only criticism was that the film should have ended five minutes before it did.  With Lincoln leaving the white house and not featuring the assassination at all, since we all know it happened.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought watching it. 

I think the point where his silhouetted figure descends the stairs and turns right would have been the ideal end, in my opinion. 

Maybe that was an original end, but they tacked on those extra five minutes for people in non-English speaking countries, who might not be familiar with life story?

Just watched this interesting documentary about Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown, ww2 FAA pilot and later test pilot.

Interesting stories to tell about prewar german,  learned to fly after being challenged by Ernst Udet to do that and learn German.

Flew Wildcats off of HMS Audacity, protecting convoys, servived the escort carrier sinking.

Went on to make more than 2400 deck landings in all sorts of aircraft, including the putting the first twin engined, a mosquito onto a uk carrier.

Later in the war, became a test pilot, then fought to bring down V2 in flying Tempest.

Towards the end of the war, went to German to find nazi aircraft technology, went to Bergen-Belsen, interrogated nazi camp guards, also interviewed Goering. 

Flew a Me163 Komet and survived the experience.

Having started his days flying Gladiators in the FAA, he finished his days flying/developing the Buccaneer. 

All told he flew a total of 487 different types of aircraft.

At 95 years old still rather lucid.
