Apparently, there's a market for some VHS movies, highly expensive, like in the thousand of dollars, for an identical movie available on DVD or Blu Ray, except for the cover.

VHS hipsters much?  :P

Insane.

Netflix, which rarely gives audience figures, has revealed its most watched movies:

Quote
Extraction (99M)
Bird Box (89M)
Spenser Confidential (85M)
6 Underground (83M)
Murder Mystery (83M)
The Old Guard (78M)
Enola Holmes (76M)
Project Power (75M)
(tied) The Midnight Sky and Army of the Dead (72M)

(this households, not individual people)

I don't think I particularly enjoyed any of them (Enola Holmes was okay, I guess).

Some rare Disney movies such as Song of the South would not surprise me as much (500 $ would be still to much). In other countries, Disney redubs every now and then their classics so getting the dub you heard as a kid means VHS.

Of course, it does not apply to the Little Mermaid, available on UHD blu-ray as well for 20 $ or so.

Could be money laundering though.  :P

Midway (2019): entertaining throwback to an earlier era of warmovies. That was a nice recommendation that came out of Youtube... somehow.

Zombieland (2009?): don't think I've laughed this much during a zombie-apocalypse film before. Who comes up with these things.

Two things to say. Let me just get my metropolitan liberal elite sjw gravy train woke hat for a second....

There's a lot of fuss lately about a new drama about Anne boleyn where Ann is played by a black woman. The Internet is exploding in rage. I just saw an advert for it...
And its a 3 piece drama on channel 5, the loveliest of low channels that nobody watches. What the hell? I thought it'd be a big budget spectacular from the fuss. Some really clever marketing/casting action at work there.

We are lady parts - surprisingly good comedy about a Muslim girl punk band. It avoids the usual clichés of this kind of thing, it doesn't seem to be just a box ticking exercise with race and religion being everything in the story.
It's flight of the concords but punk.
I do find it interesting that at a glance none of the cast appear Muslim. A few definite European background people playing Asians.

Say I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to watch some Trek. Which one of the classic shows do you think holds up better? TNG? DS9? Other?

Grey Fox

TNG unless you were a fan of Voyager.

DS9 only works if you want to watch multiple episodes.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

HVC

DS9. First season is... lacking. its my fav star trek.

Look up any "Best 10 episodes" lists for TNG and you're set. DS9's best episodes often require the context of the bigger story.

I think it really depends on what you're feeling nostalgic for.

Obviously TOS is going to feel the most dated.  They remastered the episodes so the space shots look much nicer, but the costumes and sets are still pretty cheesy (to say nothing of Shatner's acting).  But sometimes cheesy is good!  I think it's quite watchable for what it is.

TNG shows it's age as well.  It has some rough episodes, but some very good ones.  As said if you just want to watch some classic episodes this might be your best bet.

DS9 I think looks better, but it requires commitment to the overall storyline.  This is the show if you want to binge-watch.

And I'll suggest Enterprise if you just never saw it the first time around.

But mostly - for nostalgia just watch whichever series was yur favourite.

DS9 tempts me. I never saw it in full because it was cancelled in Spain. But the required commitment kinda puts me off.

DS9 if you want to binge. TNG or VOY (whichever is your preference) if you just want to drop in on a random episode here or there.

Here's a "kind-of" condensed viewing guide.  But really once the Dominion War gets going in full by season 5 or so you may want to watch every single episode.
