I think it needs to start at the start of the decade.  The wall has come down, everything is possible, the West has won, all will be sunshine rainbows and lollipops, and then it isnt.

What happened in the 90s besides grunge?

The internet.  Early cellphones.  Boybands.  The balkans.  Waco seige.  Columbine.  Starbucks. 

Doesn't have to be teens - I was suggesting more of a workplace comedy set at Microsoft at the height of its powers.  Bill Gates almost an unseen extra cast member.

Not bad, but AMC had that Halt and Catch Fire thng, based around that in a way.

Start it around 93-94.  Economy is still kind of depressed.  They you get the rise of the internet / dot com boom, then Y2K, dot come bust, and 9/11.

Yeah, we're getting somewhere now. Going back to your earlier idea about Microsoft. What about, more generic, like a group of young adults, early IT whizzes working in a corporate office. Doing stuff like messing with those early, quaint, viruses that were going around, etc.

Nothing really in the 90s.  Googling suggests Fresh Off the Boat and Derry Girls.  I've heard of both, but both suggest more being set in a very specific situation, moreso than just the 90s.

My Big Fat Diary is one that comes to mind. Has a very 90s feel with the main character being into the music of the time.

I wonder if its just me or things truly are so different now.
See I have this block in my mind that I cannot control.
Even though the original Star Wars films came out within a decade of my birth, they are something that is established as always having existed. They're old and have been around since forever.
There's a shorter distance between them and the prequels yet the gap there seems far larger than between the prequels and the new films.

Again it could be just because I'm alive and sentient. But it really seems things just don't develop as quickly as they used to. In some ways they're going backwards even. With games for instance there was a huge progression back in the bit days. PS2-PS3 slowed down a bit there and PS3-PS4....Negliable progress.

Yeah. e.g. just recently several of my colleagues were discussing how they have things like light switches and thermostats on voice-activation via the Amazon hub thingie.

That was proper sci-fi stuff in the 90s.

People listened to music on silly round metallic discs. People sat around and watched TV shows together at the same time.
