Tim's Vermeer is good stuff if you're into art history or just seeing one rich guy obsessively make something.

Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Habbaku

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Maybe an Ostrich?

Watched two eps of the Musketeers series today; It's quite terrible. Not even Capaldi can save it.

The Eric Cantona dead ringer playing a Papal envoy was funny though.

Is that a spinoff of that godawful movie with Milla Jovovich spinning through the air and firing gatling cannons?

'Arbitrage' - I enjoyed it more than I expected, good appropriate ending.

Please Like Me

I'm glad to see it is back for a 2nd series / apparently a 3rd was already greenlit. :)

'All Is Lost' - an OK sailing drama with Robert Redford, though I found the dialogue somewhat hard to follow at times.

Saw The Mission again, first time in many years. Good film.

Asphalt Jungle (1950).  Sterling Hayden, a really neat heist sequence, and a great gunfight sequence.  Highly enjoyable, though watching Rififi again today probably didn't do it any favors.

B+

In addition to Rififi, I watched Topkapi and The Brain From Planet Arous as well.

I received my Ray Harryhausen collection yesterday (contains It Came From Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, 2,000,000 Miles to Earth, and 7th Voyage of Sinbad).  Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to watch 'em--mostly again, though somehow I've avoided 2mm Miles to Earth.

Also got a DVD deal with Them! and The Creature From 20,000 Fathoms, along with a couple of filler titles, World Without End and Satellite in the Sky, that I'd never heard of, though the Satellite one sounds cool--it's some kind of astronauts-in-trouble thriller, and I tend to enjoy those.  I'll be looking at all of 'em at some point in the future.
You definitely need to review THEM! if you haven't already.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Nope, although it does have some anachronisms, like rabid feminist countesses and quick-reloading handguns. They don't follow Dumas' novels, they just take the characters and create new stories - which is fine - but those stories are pretty uninteresting and feel way too "modern", written with a XXIth century mentality. Plus it's one of those period series where everybody is perfectly clean and groomed, all the time.

I suppose "awful" it's too strong a word, it's like drinking diet coke I guess. Flavorless, but it won't poison you.

KRonn

I've been watching some of the new show "The Quest". It's a bit like survivor in how it uses contests to determine who remains, but very different in its setting. It's a medieval setting, complete with castles, workshops, fields of battle and town residents. Paladins compete with each other in various contests such as using catapults and sword fighting. I'm enjoying it so far.

Syt

As mentioned before: It's been filmed around the corner from here.

Glad I'm not the only one thinks so. My mother lived it but I stopped after a few episodes, why does so much british drama just fail to be interesting :(
