Heroes question

In the first couple of seasons Peter Petrelli can get another hero's ability by just thinking about them.. now he needs to touch and then only  gets one at a time. Any explation?
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

His dad stole his powers for a while in the last series. When he got them back it was this reduced one at a time version. I can't remember him having to touch them before hand either, just being near them- I remember one or two scenes of shock when a new power unexpectedly kicked in due to a new hero nearby.
The writers realised that he was getting more and more powerful to the extent it was getting quite like justice league and superman- the other heroes need only cheer him on whilst super Peter stops every villain within one episode.
What is odd is that his new version of the power still works with the Haitian aroundl.
And yes. Heroes really really lost its way after the first series.

Heroes jumped the shark officially at the end of the third season.  But it was struggling from the end of season 1.

Looking back I'd say the highpoint was the late 1st season episode Company Man.  After that it was all downhill.

Way overrated. Half the chicks who've been on the show have been hotter than her. Kimberly Williams, Ally Larter, Jayma Mays, Madeline Zima...
