Or maybe they paid no attention whatsoever to the age, grabbed a bottle off the shelf, and ran. I've done that numerous times when going to a party. Most wines would be okay to do that with. Some, obviously, aren't. You simply got unlucky.

So what wine is what?
White has to be new and has a sell by date and red is the one that ages?
