Wow, this is gonna be big. I'm surprised though, I thought most of the evidence the Feds had wouldn't be admissible because of the nature of the interrogation.

WASHINGTON - Accused Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be sent to New York to face trial in a civilian federal court, an Obama administration official told The Associated Press on Friday.

The official said that Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to announce the decision later Friday morning.

The official was not authorized to discuss the decision before the announcement and was speaking on condition of anonymity.

Holder also plans to announce that the major suspect in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, will face justice before a military commission, as will a handful of other detainees to be identified at the same announcement, the official said.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I thought they found a laptop or something when they first arrested him that contained incriminating evidence?
The biggest thing I blame Bush for is Obama.

Zanza

Didn't he freely admit that he was the mastermind of the attack?

Good luck finding a jury that does not already have an opinion on the case...

He really should be tried by a military court and hanged.  That way, he wouldn't have to be subjected to the monstrous US justice system.

I wonder where he'll get to live during his probation after he's done his time.

Maybe you can do it the European way, and send them off to a Swedish castle to live in decadent opulence and then release them twenty years early.

If he was a kiddie pervert, he could be held as a threat to the community.

Yeah, I wonder how things got botched enough so that a military tribunal wasn't able to be used. I think the errors and miscues there are the fault of the Bush admin. And I do fear this may turn into an odd show trial, to liven the hearts and minds of extremists types everywhere.

I think you are right at that last part.  The ideologues will be lining up to sound off about this.

I guess history does repeat itself.

I'm only surprised Holder didn't do this sooner.

I wouldn't be so pessimsitic - this may be a deliberate decision that the evidence is so strong there is nothing to lose by using a regular court.  As derspiess suggests, there is good reason to believe the federal criminal system is more than capable of dealing with a case like this.

I sure hope you're right but will have my doubts until we find out more.
